power steering v-belt (defender 200tdI)
Hi folks,

I'm going through and refreshing the v-belts for my truck and have a question.

Based on several references from the internet, it seems part Dayco 17285 (Outside Circumference: 29.27" / 743.46mm) is the recommended V-belt for the Power Steering pump on the Defender 200tdi.

However, I am attempting to place the v-belt on the engine, and for the life of me, I cannot seem to install the belt without completely removing the power steering pump itself.

Should I be able to install the power steering belt on the Defender 200tdi without totally removing the power steering pump?

Yes, I have slackened all three bolts to the maximum.

Shouldn't the belt just slip over the two pulleys when fully loosened? If so, I will just get the next size up belt (17290, I believe) but I want to make sure, first.

Cheers

thanks tolley, but that's a disco 200tdi?

or are you saying that the belt has to be "rolled on" via rotating the crankshaft pulley?

Quite often they are rolled on and many a time I have taken that plate holding the pas pump completely off to get belt on. Cheers

Success! The Dayco 17285 "rolled on" to the crankshaft pulley with no issues.

Hard to believe how much these v-belts either vary in length or stretch over time - the old belt was also a 17285, but came off the pulleys quite easily, hence my confusion. 7 year I think on that old belt.

cheers mates.
