It’s a 300tdi 1996 vintage and has done 245k km so far. The plan is to pop over to Perth and leave it at a friends place where my brother (who is a Kiwi these days ) can enjoy touring around Australia in the future. The Landy has spent the last week having a check over and service at a private Landy specialist in Brisbane SBL Automotive and the owner Shane has done a few bits n bobs including fitting a new set of Bridgestone AT tyres which look very smart.

Anyway, off to Bunnings to start getting things together, it’s our first drive and as we turn into Bunnings after 7 km the 130 shudders and misfires but we park and go shopping then muck around securing storage boxes to the load bed. After some hours it’s time to return to our hotel and get dinner but the Landy won’t start. Oh dear 🙄.

Being used to characterful landrovers we don’t panic and a phone call to Shane points a finger at the wire to the stop solenoid and we arrange to pop the 130 back next morning. The brakes squeal awfully as well so he will check that. So that’s the reason why expedition shopping now shows a Merc A class ‘support vehicle’ Mr. Green

We collect the 130 and a new terminal on the stop solenoid has been fitted plus anti squeal shims to the rear pads which someone in the past thought unnecessary 🤔

It’s time to get loaded:

We plan to set off early in the morning and stop well before dark to test out our new camping kit. The plan is to head to Longreach and visit the Qantas Museum before starting the Outback Way towards Perth. This route is also known as the worlds longest shortcut Mr. Green It should be fun..... will keep you posted as we find WiFi en route.

Yes, we made it, Didn't seem to be much interest on a full report here so gave up, but if you like could I could post more photos of our trip. It was certainly a good drive.

After Winton there is more tarmac then the red stuff starts. Much less traffic for long periods and the amount of road kill decreases but tends to move from roo's to the occasional camel ! Overnight bush camping off the main road is a pure joy with no noise and the glorious milky way overhead. Kangaroo's that are alive are few and far between...road houses come along from time to time and offer good breakfast's Very Happy
