Foreign speeding fines
After a little advice, I sold/exported my Discovery 3 near on three yrs ago to a French chap. Since then i have moved addresses to. I have been forwarded a french speeding fine for the D3, and this morning another letter in French which i can not understand, this has been forwarded from my previous address. I think this is a debt collection threat. Whats my best course of action? anyone been through this before. Thanks 2007 2.4 90 fettled & remapped.

I have heard that for fines they are starting to chase UK registered cars with debt collectors. First, take a photo of the letter and pop it up or PM me and i’d Be happy to read it for you. Second, if you have any evidence that you a. Sold it and B. Weren’t where they say the fine was taken, collate it and send it to the local Gendarmes/Police/Letter sender/Prefecture and inform them you’ll not be paying the fine because it wasn’t your car. Discussed a similar situation just two days ago, friends number plate had been cloned. When she showed the Gendarmes that she wasn’t in Paris at the given moment, oh and that the plate was registered to a motorbike and not a Renault van, they were quite amenable. Speeding in France used to be all the responsibility of the Gendarmes and Police, but I have heard some are now being taken by private companies (I think the fixed cameras, not speed-guns or temporary tripods) and they are more willing than the authorities to chase them up. Send the photo through and I’ll take a peek.... Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Surely when you sold your disco, you filled in your portion of the V5 and sent it to the DVLA?

That way they'd know that it no longer belonged to you?
