When mine leaked it was the pump shaft seal that had failed, resulting in coolant leaking from a drain hole below the pump. With the pump on the engine it was impossible to see where the leak was coming from.

Buy a Borg & Beck one for a 2.4. £85 and don’t go to that LR ridiculous price. I did and has been faultless ever since I fitted it a few years ago. In fact running temp is now a touch lower as well, although that may be combined with new coolant.
I recon it had some rubbish concentrate and water mix in before, I used pre mixed and that seemed a lot better. Then you know at least it’s a distilled water and coolant mix without and mineral deposits in it etc and mixed to the exact spec. Yes, costs a little more but saves the work. Although everyone has their preferences. ![]() ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Forgot to add. LR tried to charge me £580 to replace it plus a pressure test that was £120!

Just bumping this thread.
Is it worth buying the water pump and vac pump complete and change them together, for peace of mind? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/253485212912?mk...media=COPY 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS. |

Vac pump should be fine just replace gaskets.
With the waterpump, the whole unit inc manifold I would advise. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Brilliant - thank you
I already have the Borg & Beck complete water pump unit. I wasn’t sure whether I should send it back and buy the one from the link above as it comes with the vac pump. There’s nothing wrong with my vac pump - I was just assuming preventative Maintenance. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS. |

Just lift the vac pump up and away and tie just out the way after removing the three bolts.
That’s all that’s needed with that, don’t undo the hose and coupling attached to it, it’s more trouble than it’s worth so I have heard so I’m glad that I never did. If you can get away without dismantling anything whilst doing a job then that’s ideal, you never know what might break otherwise. And then get one job end up turning into three. Some tissue paper such and blue workshop paper or kitchen roll is a good idea to clean up any minor spills of fluids, otherwise a little can get everywhere. ![]() ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |
