I had very similar symptoms- was water in fuel filter from perished tank breather hose - and from this a knackered VCV

As said above, try changing the vcv valve. Easy enough to do. You're supposed to do a pump relearn after changing but they'll run fine without doing.

Cheers guys...I've been doing a lot of "googling" this morning both on the puma and transit forums. It seems that it could be a faulty VCV, SCV or PRV or a combination of all three. Some advise to replace all 3, as they do and will fail at some point.
Again....any advice is welcome. Regards, DG |

You should be okay with changing VCV only. Mine needs doing really. And fuel tank breathers as suggested. Hoping the latter isn’t an overly expensive job to get done. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Clean and dry out the tank before re-fitting and re-filling. You've already changed out the fuel filter, so that's good. Check that the fuel filter is seated properly and wobbling when tightly fitted.
Changing the VCV is good since you said you had sludge in the tank. You'll have to do the pilot correction and pump re-learn after you replace the VCV to ensure smoother operation. Since you already have the PRV, I guess it couldn't hurt to replace it as well if it was suspect. |

I thought you could change the VCV without relearn and eventually it will do it, it’s self. TheThunder Rolls🇬🇧🇺🇸

Always worth unplugging the MAF sensor, I had all kinds of issues with cutting out, unplugging it will cause it to just run default values. On mine it stopped all the issues, then I just fitted a replacement and no more problems.
I was not getting any lights or alarms or codes. Just cutting out and poor running. 2008 Defender 110 XS CSW Volvo S60 T8 Triumph 1200 Rally Explorer G0UBX |

Today’s latest...
VCV (SCV) & PRV FITTED. Now ticking over perfectly but still hesitating and losing all power when driven. Would an ECU re-learn be the problem now? Slowly losing the will to live.... ![]() Regards, DG |

Did it carry out the full 're learn without problem?
Mine did what you describe, there was still some air in fuel line. Have you checked drain screw and filter properly on. |

I haven't had it plugged in to diagnostics yet....I thought it would have ran ok without much issue.

You could, but things would be smooth sailing quicker if you could do the relearn after replacing the VCV. Since he's still experiencing cut off issues, having the OBD scan tool plugged in can help him monitor the values to see if there is anything else he should be checking. |

The latest...PCM re-learn completed. No faults stored or showing. Now idling without cutting out. Still a very bad hesitation while driving, with a loss of power. Unplugged the MAP sensor and took it for a drive...loss of power. Disconnected the MAF sensor...made no difference.
Any ideas...? Regards, DG |
