Hi all
Just installed a set of LED brake lights on my 1984 110. Fairly basic job, black to black. Red to red and green to green for wiring. They turn on fine when pressing the pedal when the main lights are off. When I turn the side lamps or headlamps on they immediately go to full power as if I had the brakes on. No change to the lamps when braking if the headlamps are on Any ideas on what is going on. Cheers Tim Series II in pieces 1984 Defender 110 (3.5l V8 now 300TDI) |

Despite the apparent obviousness of the wire colours, it sounds like the polarity is the wrong way around, which is important for LED's. It's difficult to know if it's the side or brake lights at fault so a bit if trial and error will be needed to work it out. Basically, swap each of the coloured wires with the black wire in turn to see which combination gives the correct operation. Darren

Sounds like the red and green should be connected the other way around.
The brake light part is coming on with the side lights, and so there's no increase in brightness with the brake pressed. So red-green and vice versa. Try one lamp and see 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Thanks both, will give this a try. I also found on another forum that someone had the same issue with a bad connection. Will trouble shoot and post results
