Ok big Easter update. Only able to work on this in uni holidays so progress is sporadic to say the least.
I started by stripping the front axle down entirely, buff it up with a flap wheel and get the casing painted.  Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge There was a hole in the bracketry for the radius arm which I cleaned up and welded a bit of plate over. Click image to enlarge Then painted with Buzzweld Chassis In One - fantastic stuff, no primer required, chemically converts rust and gives a good satin finish. Click image to enlarge Then prepped and painted various other bits with the same stuff Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Finally I've painted the chassis with Buzzweld Galv In One, again great stuff. First go round with a file and whip off any sharp bits of galv, then a quick degrease, full rub down with scotchbrite pads and finally a rinse off to get rid of the dust. Left it to dry out overnight and got a coat on the next day just brushing it on. Again, it leaves a great finish even with a brush, goes on really well. Just going to be cracking on with cleaning up and painting the other suspension and steering parts until I'm ready to start assembling everything and get it up on its feet. Gunna need a big order at Paddocks before then though...  Matt.

Hopefully gunna be better than factory in many ways by the time she's finished. Even little details such as copper easing all appropriate nuts and bolts will make a big difference when it comes to any maintenance work down the line

yeah now is the chance to make things easier to work on too if needed be, you are going to learn a
 load of info! I did when I rebuilt a rover metro. the skills I learned gave me the info to tackle anything now. I am still learning my way around the defender, but again it will all come in time for me. I am still learning about the 306, but then again that's not needed to be pulled a part.
