Totally agree, why miss a great vehicle because of the road tax, if we worried about costs none of us would drive defenders

yeah I am waiting on for that bus, Only thing is I have read that some pumas can cost 500 quid to tax, That's putting me well off, as I have seen some early ones which are good enough to look at. yeah I have seen some sheds going for daft money, and some good choices. The mileage on defenders isn't a bother at all to me. its finding another good one for that kind of money. You can always ask the seller for the yearly tax rate before viewing. Basically it's Station wagons where the higher tax rate came in (but some were registered as USW and were actually in the commercial tax bracket). Basically CSW 2007 - 2010 I believe were the higher rate. Everything else was £250 commercial. ![]() 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

If you can't afford an extra fiver a week for the difference in road tax between £250 & £500 then stop looking for a Defender & spend a lot less on a Nissan Micra or something else that has low road tax

It’s a bizarre thing l know, as it’s only £5 a week extra. But every time l taxed our June 2006 TD5 SW l felt ripped off.
Eventually it contributed to me selling it, and l made sure that the Defender 110 SW l replaced it with was pre March 2006. And you will say l am stupid, but l wouldn’t buy a post March 2006 “Rip off tax” Defender SW even if it was otherwise OK. |

@ Lightening.
I agree, it played a big part in buying my defender. I refuse to pay +£500 for tax. My TD5 is 300ish, which is just bearable... My 2l Turbo Audi A4 was only 230 I think... Regards Adam Loving The Duchess The Defender 110 TD5 XS My Defender story - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic64005.html |

Exactly, why pay more for road tax than you need to if you are happy to go for a pre 2006 Defender? I really would be unhappy paying £500 a year, especially if, like me, you pay it straight up in one go. My 2004 sw is £315 and that's enough to stump up!
If I ever went for a tdci in the future, I would ensure its a usw with the lower tax rate. |

Same as bud, pay everything yearly - bigger lump to pay, but its cheaper over the year.
Paying for everything monthly, makes everything more expensive... And everything is expensive as it is, it doesn't need to be any dearer! ![]() Adam Loving The Duchess The Defender 110 TD5 XS My Defender story - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic64005.html |

Too right.
Its funny how people manage their money differently - Like you it would freak me out too, I have my regular bills go out monthly, like mortgage, gas/electric, mobile phone, but the key is I also have a small chunk of my money go into my savings account by direct debit as soon as im paid, so im used to not having it... ![]() Adam Loving The Duchess The Defender 110 TD5 XS My Defender story - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic64005.html |

Same thinking as me then, I transfer money into a savings account on payday so it's gone before you start spending for the month!
Anyway, back to original topic, TD5s are great! ![]() |
