I also swapped mine for ashcroft on the weekend. I had already worn out the second (original) pair. Let's see if Ashcroft lasts longer. Now only minimal play in the drive. If not, it's not worth buying expensive quality. |

Blackwolf - I agree, I treat mine with a lot of mechanical sympathy. Although the sympathy isn't always returned.
![]() ![]() My 2.4 had the factory 2 piece set up, they lasted up until around 65k. They were getting pretty much on their last legs though. Although I didn't realise it much before I changed them due to it being a very very slow wear rate. An amount of slop between gear changes and vehicle movement with the handbrake engaged are tell tale signs. Also a drive engagement like clunk is also, especially at low speeds. Does anyone know if it’s common practice to fit rear half shaft flanges and a load of silicone sealer on the inside?
I found just that when recently fitting the one piece shafts. It was the side where I had an oil leak and was repaired under warranty at a well known Sussex main dealer. . Is this really a dealer fix for such an issue?? ![]() |

My indie uses sealant but would have thought a main dealer would use a new gasket?
I wouldn't worry about it. |

Apologies if this has already been covered in another topic, but are they much of a job to swap? I keep seeing Discovery one piece rear ones for sale on eBay for very little (ie £25) and it's becoming quite tempting.

Pretty simple job Joe. Be sure to torque the bolts up properly as snapping one in hub is a PITA. A friend told me, honest. 🤥

Hi Scotm
Thanks. I was referring to sealant completely filled up on the inside of the flange and then fills the area where the shaft fits. Seems like a bodge to me. The gasket on the flange was fine. 2015 90 XS Santorini Black |

This comes up regularly and whilst many don't like it, they come from the factory like that and so is clearly not a problem. Darren

Which ex disco half shafts would I need for the rear of a 110 Puma. There are loads on eBay and I would end up with the wrong ones.

That would leak down back of disc. Not sure on why they would fill a drive member with silicon. Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

As there is some play in my drive flanges I am thinking about doing the same. Are the ones needed for a 2012 110 Puma 10 spine, 24 spline, or something else? Any info much appreciated so I don't end up buying the wrong ones!!! |
