Issue with new single din stereo
I am replacing the OEM stereo in my 2008 TDCi and i am struggling to get the new unit to power on. The loom in the vehicle has the two IOS connector format and the new head unit has a harness that accepts the iso connectors. Do i need some sort of converter or could it be possible that the IOS connectors are wired differently and need re-wiring to connect up the right ones? Before anyone says it, the wiring colours vary on both sides of this connection, so not as easy as just matching the colours.

Any help much appreciated!

Assuming u get the connector onto your headunit, did u plug in the red cable which for power.

Yellow and red can be switched, however that's for constant power after the ignition is off ( to keep the settings on the radio ) and it's dependant on model/make of vehicle

My first thought would be to check fuses.

If they are fine , then fit the original unit back in and see if it powers up, if so, the fault is with the new unit, if not, we'll try something else

If you have a plug in adapter the Connects 2 version didn't work for me - pins in the wrong place

You do not need any wiring adaptor on a 2008 that only applies to 2012> models.

The Defender 2007 - 2012 DIN ISO male plug lay out is the market standard, I would imagine it's the new HU side that is the issue.
Mine plugged in straight away with no modifications every time.

I would swap the pins on the new HU side (female) to match rather than the LR male plugs.

But first I would plug it in and try it, so long as Earth is not matched to ignition or permanent live.
The HU should only turn on with ignition on, and store settings with ignition off (but not turn on.)
It should not turn on at all with the ignition off, if it does then the ignition and permanent live need swapping.

You can usually with a little patience un-pick the connector pin from its housing and carefully adapt it to fit again in the correct colour orientation and you should be sorted.

Unless someone else has swapped the ignition and perm live over on the LR before which I doubt is the case the LR would be DIN ISO and I would match the new units config to the LR loom config.

It'd also be easier to do this on a bench instead of in the dash.

Hi all,

Thanks very much for all the advice. Managed to swap around the wiring on the ISO connector and she sprung to life. Now to upgrade the speaker system!

Just ordered Focal 100 KRS components for the front and Focal 100 AC coaxials for the rear. Will eventually stick an active sub in. Don't need crazy power, so not planning a full multi-channel amp job.
