Yes they were. They are exceptionally expensive.

Best two options are genuine 1piece or Ashcroft HD 2 piece and HD flanges. I have the latter.
It'd be interesting to see what mileage people get out of the 1 piece. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

During my research last month i found out that some very late models had the single piece ones fitted and sometimes under warranty if owner insisted. I discovered genuine ones are stupid expensive so went Ashcroft route with their HD flanges and halfshafts, 100% happy and come with 5yr warranty against wear.

Iโm very pleased with Ashcdoft too.
Blackwolf above previously mentioned how long his lasted, IIRC it was around 100k but sketchy memory on that. Mine has never had 1 piece to pass comment, but of course they will still wear just depends on comparing estimated longevity really. Bear in mind there is no warranty on โfrettingโ though. Last edited by custom90 on 27th Dec 2018 11:40am. The one piece shafts won't wear as there is no joint to 'fret'. Darren

lots of the mk 1 discoveries had single piece ones the cheapest source of them is a local scrap yard, generally they show no wear at the differential end DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

As the splines on both ends of the shaft are free to move laterally and they run with a fixed distance between joints. Would it be feasible to weld the outer housing to the end plate to achieve the equivalent of a one-piece shaft? Any axial movement would be taken into account with the free joint at the differential end.

Is the drive flange made of cast iron? If so then it would be difficult. 130's have feeling's as well you know

I changed to one piece rear half-shafts in my 200 because I was fed up with drive flange wear, they have lasted 40,000 miles, were second-hand from a high mileage rusty 300 tdi Disco being broken and at the moment show negligible wear at the diff end.
Buy shiny ashcroft half-shafts if you must have shiny but I paid ยฃ15 for the pair ๐ Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

This was the end I meant, but as it's diff oil lubed can't be very much of an issue and being only one splined component reduces wear. The 1 piece however is significantly more expensive.

i fitted Ashcroft shafts originally with std DM but then changed DMs to theirs to stop water ingress. I fitted ashcrofts as i have lockers front and rear. Otherwise Mo's option is the most sensible. Cheers

Shoot me down but the Britpart onepiece rear shafts have come very well recommended to me by a reputable garage. One of his customers has travelled across many continents with them fitted and no problems. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html

I had mine professionally welded roughly 10,000 miles ago and have had no problems. Click image to enlarge |
