Torque Wrench
Although not LR related, I'm in need of a new torque wrench. I'm currently in an engine rebuild of my Polaris RZR. Torque settings are quite critical so need a decent priced accurate TR.
Any recommendations? 110 D250 SE HT

I use Draper, always done the job for me no problem. (And they are calibrated.)

Although someone will soon probably come along with a gold plated version that has been hand crafted by indigenous peoples of the Limpopo river and this costs £800 - £2000 each. Whistle Rolling with laughter

On a more serious note, Norbar get good feedback too but are more expensive and I would imagine Wera would be too but of course premium prices. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I bought a Halfords Pro about 20 years ago. Still give it a beating and no issues.

I also have a Snap-On, but the 'rivet' that holds the head in needs hitting in place every time I use it. It's now just used as an expensive breaker bar.

It has been mentioned in a couple of threads that the current Halfords Pro are re-badged Norbar. (IIRC the clue is in the cal certificate?). I have a couple and would consider buying again if I lost one or it got nicked etc. Thumbs Up

I would say, don’t go really cheap. I’ve got two cheapo generic ones, like cheapest Clarke or Draper. The ratchets are quite coarse, the setting on the twist grip is prone to being nudged out of place by accident and they only work for right hand thread. Also, one of mine has kg-m instead of Nm as the metric scale which weird even if it is easy to convert. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I have Teng and Norbar versions and very happy with both. I like the angle markers on the head of the Teng version, it's useful for head bolts etc. 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

Most of mine are "old" Britool, the EVT series, from the time when Britool was a quality brand. Sadly, since Britool changed hands and became yet another manufacturer of cheap and cheerful tools, I don't think these are made anymore.

Personally I would look for a good used old Britool torque wrench in preference to any of those mentioned so far. When I started mechanicing and buying tools (over 50 years ago Shocked ) I was warned off Norbar as being pretty bad. I imagine that 50 years may have changed that but I can't speak from experience.

I suspect a lot depends whether you want a good torque wrench for occasional use, or a top-grade torque wrench for professional use.

Wera have introduced a range for a reasonable price. Not cheap but not too expensive either. Given their reputation it seems a good deal.

I have a 30-210ish Nm torque wrench from paddock (Laser tools I guess). After a couple of weeks I found the setting screws on the floor, all the moving parts had fallen out of the handle when working - I have absolutely no clue how this could have happened...

My Britool's are inherited so I suspect these will be the old generation... I actually prefer them to the Norbar but my old man has used them all for most of his career and they all need very little calibration today.

Thanks fopr all the advice. As for use, I want it to be accurate, rebuilding a small engine, the torque settings are all quite low and I know from chatting on the Polaris forums in the US the engines are very fickle for torque settings.
As an example the flywheel cover needs a genuine gasket fitting. And torqued to spec. People who have used aftermarket gaskets or even automotive mastic and just nipped the bolts up have found that the crank binds up because the tolerances and so fine if you don't go genuine you're Censored . And if you think LR can charge then Polaris are up with them.
I need to change the timing chain on mine as it's stretched and the timing has jumped a tooth. You can drop the flywheel cover off and the flywheel and a few other small bits and bobs, then remove the rocker cover. You can get away with £150 of parts. If you go by the workshop manual and the parts list expands considerably
, main dealer I spoke to insists that you need to split the engine case to change the chain and the parts list touches the wrong side of £500 110 D250 SE HT
