Sounds like the clutch on the compressor might be stuck on. I’m sure there’s a plethora of videos on YouTube to show you how to test them.

NickMc, yes that was my supposition as well. Just wanted some input on the degree of spin it aught to have disengaged. Appreciate the feedback. 👍 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

You can do the crude screw driver in the clutch trick, but that’s up to you and your own limbs You can strip the clutches and pull them off, some you need tools for.

Yes sounds like a seized clutch to me too, the pulley on mine spins with virtually no resistance at all with the belt off and clutch disengaged.

Thanks Clive tat is what I was looking for, however... Sadly no, I just tested it with 12 volts to the clutch (on the unplugged the wires and it works well). It may require a rebuild though. It clicks in and out ☹️ I have verified the temperature switch is good, the fan switch is good, the AC ECU is good. So I will be checking pressure levels tomorrow at my friends garage. I believe that low levels of R134 can also cause this freeze up and force the clutch to not disengage as it tries to keep up with the low level.
Anyways, thanks all for the input and suggestions. I’ll update when and if I figure out what it is. 🍻 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris) 2003 Range Rover Mk III (Desmond FitzWilliam) 2000 Defender 110 CSW TD5 (CTX) 1992 Range Rover Classic (Lizzy) 1972 Series III 300 Tdi (Stanwood) 1967 MGB GT Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin to slit throats. UPDATE. The Schrader valve on the low pressure line was leaking my system had half the R143 it was supposed to have. Replaced the valve bled and recharged the system and it work as it should now. In all my years messing about with cars I have never seen a leaky valve... go figure.

Hi
I seem to have the same basic problem. The airco leaks the r143. My system was almost empty. But pressure testing revealed no leaks. And i found no tracés of the green fluoride. How did you test the valves? a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

No coloured dye present just gas (ppffffft!). Check your evaporator, get a flash light (torch) and shine it into the vent and see what you can see... if it has a leak the condensation from the evap will dilute the dye and male it less visible. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

the thermostat switch could be malfunctioning, if your ac clutch was stuck, it would always be on regardless if it was activated or not, but i only have seen ac clutches fail with slip.
Check the thermostat switch, it could be damaged |
