Depends on year. Pre 2000ish nothing just do what you want really. Post 2000ish should have a cat if fitted from factory but many are decatted and passed MOTs fine (my two have no problems). 2007+ needs a DPF (and cat I think)
Side exits are fine too just can't be a sharp edge sticking out. |

DPF only needed on approx 2012 > 2.2 Defenders as fitted by the factory. CAT should be present on all engines. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

As long as it exits after the DPF and Cat it should be ok. I'm sure there are regulations which limit how far it protrudes from the body. Check with the guy who normally does your MOT Defender 90XS SW

Thanks guys, its a TD5 and pre cat , so looks like the only issue i may have is reducing the noise level,

Still ahould be fine, my old 90 mpassed its MOT with zero boxes. I eventually put the rear most box back on as was too loud on the mway
