Dampers: OME vs. Koni?
I've run OME stuff on various defenders for years, always been happy with it.

Current 110 has factory HD springs (happy with them), and OME HD gas front dampers (I forget the part number now).

a year or so back, one of the rear OME's (N44) died, lost all pressure. So I just stuck in a pair of standard LR oil filled jobbies. Did the job but the handling isn't as nice as it used to be (hardly surprising really with gas up front and oil in the back)

Anyway, I'm doing a mini overhaul soon, so amassing parts ready to fit. I was going to just get another pair of N44's for the rear, but I hear/read good things about Koni Heavy track "raid" dampers, part # 90-5375SP1 which seems to do 90/110/130 rears in HD flavour (although most dampers seem to be listed like this... how can a HD 90 one be suitable for a 130? anyway....)
prices vary from £93 each at Paddocks up to £240 from a "specialist" suspension company Rolling Eyes

But question is; has anyone used them? any good? any bad?

cheers

Yeah Ive been using the Koni special track on my 110 for a while, still working well despite the shroud cover rotting away and falling off!

I might be able to look up how long they've been on there Confused

I've had them on two different vehicles - a Discovery 1 that was loaded for overlanding and a predominantly road-going 110 - and was very pleased with them. They are adjustable, in that you can set the stiffness to one of three settings at time of installation, which allows you to tune them to your use to a degree.

It's worth noting that there are two variants - Heavy Track and Raid, with the latter being much more expensive and which probably explains the price differences that you noted. The Raid version is really for more serious competition use and overkill for a general purpose truck.

I have the Koni heavy tracks on all four corners of my 110. Really like them, I have standard springs on the front and HD on the rear. They stood up to 6 weeks in Morocco last year on some very harsh terrain and performed faultlessly.

Is that opinion or based on something in particular? Darren

I tried konis a while back, they were ok but the ome quality line seemed better at the time so I switched to them and stuck with ome. I have them on my 110 hd std length around, also have +40 iirc on soft top around, have +2" on truck cab, and Trayback had them on rear n44 equivalent before going to Plus 5 ome. Youngest set are 3years old, oldest set 9 years old. All going strong used across range from on road, driver trg, drive round days and competing. Just looking to get some more really! Cheers

Had OME on our 110 TD5. Far better ride and plusher. Lasted for years and no rotting out. 1951 80" S1 2.0

I have had my Konis on my 90 for 7 years
They have had a lot of abuse from rough tracks in the Pyrenees/Alps to bad corrugations in Iceland - 90 fully loaded
Also well behaved on tarmac
I would recommend them

Koni HT-Raid´s on my 90 fitted by the first owner when the car was new in 2012. Very happy with them, and even more so with Koni´s after sales service. When a front unit lost pressure about two years ago, Koni replaced the front pair for the price of one unit. Thumbs Up
Apparently the chunky HT-R´s are basically an adapted model from their truck range. 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

I had koni's on my CT 300 tdi. Empty weight almost 2700 kg. I run them for about 80.000 M and they are still under the CT D1. I love them and when my 90 dampers give up, koni will replace them. Roel
