I am lucky in that I work for a company who manufactures acoustic canopies for the power generation industry so the construction method was standard fare. I sketched up the concept with key dimensions and one of our cnc programmers did a 3D model of the canopy, which is fabricated in sections then bolted together. I used the standard stainless steel hinges, locks etc that are used on our customers products and assembled it using stainless hardware.
The structure is 2mm pre glavanised steel sheet that was then powder coated with industrial textured powder coat. The design, fabrication and powder coating took a few weeks as it was a fill in job when time and capacity allowed. It only took a few hours to assemble the canopy and a couple of days to fit the roof tent, awnings etc. Plus another few weeks tweekin and finishing, electrics, gas, livery etc. I originally had the roof tent on my 90 Tomb Raider but found it pretty restrictive as when you pitched camp, the Defender was out of action. Hence the reason for building the trailer. Last edited by Knoxy on 17th Oct 2017 11:36am. Edited 2 times in total |
