Any Puma clutch experts?
Hi, just chatting to my brother and he mentioned this -
Long story short - low mileage (7.5k) late model hire vehicle did a bit of unauthorised 'light offroading' resulting in a burned out clutch.
(not his or my vehicle fortunately).
The pics below apparently show the damage.
Feedback from the hire co is 'clutch burned out, no fraction material'.
Excuse my ignorance (don't laugh) but looking at the images i'm wondering is that a HD paddle clutch?
If so, were they fitted as standard by LR to late model Pumas?
Or is it just that everything's disintegrated around the panel shapes.
Any experts have any comments of the apparent damage or the parts shown?

I have see before with SHB 90 TD5 had been stolen from site and left in river as its clutch had burned out leaving the same blackened in side bell housing

If a hire vehicle, could well have been abused over its short life, finally letting go during this unauthorised light off roading. Unfortunate timing perhaps!

Looking at the fragments of friction material I would have said that that was a standard TDCi Defender clutch.

What does baffle me is how the <family> someone can do that to it? What was going on? That is not the result of a some "light offroading"! Shocked

That is the result of a sustained and brutal assault by someone with absolutely no clue how to drive.

I agree that's just a standard clutch and the friction material has come off, you can see it in one of the pics.

That is just sustained abuse, as if someone was deliberately trying to destroy the clutch, it much have been more or less on fire to do that to it. I'd be surprised if it hasn't cooked the surrounding oil seals too.

Certainly agree that has been slipped for extended time to destroy it like that DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Either that or someone deliberately set out to see how long it would last before it burned out. ie. slipping it while standing on the throttle. Shocked

Seen a few of these. When you ride these clutches they seem to turn to powder in no time.

Agreed here, Standard clutch. Just well cooked.
