Australia 2012 Defender 110 V8 Petrol CSW Auto Blenheim Silver
Allisport Puma coolant tank
Hi folks.
I've just fitted the great quality Allisport coolant expansion tank to my 2012 110, replacing the plastic OEM unit.
I'm not happy with the interference to the Metal line against the fire wall.
Am I missing something here re fitment of this unit?
The mounting plateis attached to the upper lip as per the original expansion bottle, the bolt is secured as OEM, but one of the lines has to run under the mounting plate which concerns me.
Has anyone else had issues re this?

metal line? you mean one of the brake lines or clutch line i guess?

just pad it out with some foam (old roll matt) and cable tie it in place. neither move under normal application the padding will stop rubbing under vibration especially if you cable tie the tow together so they cant move independently.

or bend it away. Cheers

Hi James, yes, I think it is an ABS line.
I was going to place rubber over it, just wanted reassurance about having themounting plate over the top. Anything to stop vibration of this item on Australian correlated bush roads.

The tank you have fitted looks like a great bit of kit, it is something I have been thinking about myself!😀👍 However just shelled out for one for my MGR V8 I view of the fact being older! The advice I had received was ageing plastic expansion tanks at pressure don't leak but let go! From appearance condition cannot be determined! Thumbs Up

Out of curiosity, how does one make the level sender work? I don't think there are lights on the panel that correspond to this?

I was actually just planning to upgrade to the header tank with sight glass as I can't see through the plastic one anymore. Now the addition of the level sender makes me curious. Though I think I'd like to keep things as simple as possible.

Also, looking at the photo above, why does the cap have a hose and what does it do? Is it part of the level sender system?

So the Iveco cap allows the pressure to bleed off via the hose and not kill the cap? And I presume any "excess" coolant will bleed through the hose? How do we keep things from going up the hose in the event of the a deep wading scenario?

I've had to replace my cap once thus far, and yes, currently in a tropical country if it makes a difference. I have noticed that my second cap is starting to let coolant dribble down the coolant tank so it may be time for a new one and may go the Iveco route.

I tried reading through the thread Theater posted and google translate makes for some strange and entertaining reading but I think I may have gotten the gist of things but better if I can ask for specifics on a more English oriented site.

well it would have nowhere to go. The cap has a pressure valve in it, if the valve opens the pressure in the cooling system will be more than enough to clear the hose and stop anything going up it. Not to mention when the valve is closed (which is most of the time) the air lock in the hose would stop anything significant going up it.

The difference is that the IVECO cap work well where the original LR loose coolant.

Since the day I started using the IVECO cap, the coolant level has never dropped. Previously, with the original LR cap, after every refill, the level dropped below 3 to 4 cm from the "equator" of the bowl after 200-300 km.... Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Thanks for clearing that up, zsd-puma! I guess you have to disconnect the hose when topping up though, small detail.
