Yes Defender's are well know to leak.
It could be leaking through your windscreen and running down there. If you have a pre-2011 car then you'll have the old type bottom door seals, which are basically an L shaped bit of rubber rivetted to the door with a little bit of foam stuck on either end - you're lucky if these keep light out let alone water or draughts! There is a revised lower door seal available which you can retrofit after drilling two more holes in each door. These offer a much better seal. |

Thanks yes our car is pre 2011 so will look to change the seals, thanks. Anyone know the best place or is it best to just go with original Land Rover parts?

I think Land Rover are the only ones doing the redesigned seals at the moment.
I think they were about £25 each, but well worth doing, they keep the draughts out as well as water and improve the cabin noise too. |

Looking at http://cat.lrparts.ru/ part numbers seem to be: -
Right Hand New: LR024954 Old: CFE102981 Left Hand New: LR024955 Old: CFE102991 Bottom New: LR029309 Old: CFE500670 Also need AWR3140 (foam) and ALR6280 (pop rivet) Assume parts for older VINs are the leakier ones? Looks like Britpart do one for less than £20. Genuine ones seem to be upwards of £50 depending where you go. I think Nakatanenga also do a higher spec one too? You don't need any of those with the new type seals. They come with clips and the design removes the need for the bits of foam. The new lower seals for the rear doors are handed, however the front one will fit either side. The new lower seals will fit with the original type top seals. |

I think my (yet to be addressed) leak comes from the windscreen frame-to-bulkhead seal. It then leaks down the lower side of the A-pilar until it hits the door hinge before dripping off the door hinge roughly where the accelerator pedal is. Same both sides. I repeat, 'I think' this is where the footwell leaks come from. But the bolts by the windscreen and the door hinge are always wet when it's raining. Is the water ingress when stationary or moving? If the former, you'd have to ask if the lower seal on the door is the problem given rain can't (normally) travel upwards. Mine does not leak whilst driving, just when stationary and when the windscreen frame is exposed to the rain, but not when covered. May be worth checking as I think it is a common problem Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

This stuff is good a curing leaks.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00JQ6XHWC Obviously it's not going to fix a problem where there's a big gap due to perished or badly fitted seal/gasket. |

Also check the main door seal itself, particularly at the door strap. A deformed seal here will let in water. if not too deformed you can ease it off and stretch it into better shape.

So looking at the site, its telling me for the front doors I need two of part No LR029309 for the two front doors, then it tells me I also need, LR029307 and LR029308 for the rear doors
So then do I also need LR024954 & LR024955? As these were mentioned by Greenlandrover above Just want to make sure I get what I need, as carpets are wet and don't want the carpets to get mouldy Cheers Mike |

Would recommend that you try and trace the leak before spending money on seals. There are many potential ares to leak and it is worth spraying the front/ side of the car with a hose and trying to see where the water is entering. If you google "Landrover water ingress manual" you will find a PDF which identifies each leak point and the remedial action.

I think on my 110, its leaking via the door card. Escapes out the bottom of the card and onto the edge of the carpet. 1999 Defender TD5 110
