Hi folks,
In about 10 weeks from now i'm looking to fit rebuilt transferbox c/w lsd, new gearbox and check the adapter shaft. At this point I'll have a spare gearbox. I'll be looking to sell it, presumably on here is as good a place to try as any (what other applications are the gearbox used?). Should I sell it as is 60k miles or should it be rebuilt first and what cost should I expect? Many thanks |

60k is hardly run in for the main gearbox, so unless there's a known problem with it there's no point rebuilding it. It might even be worse after it's been fiddled with.
There is the small problem that it has come from your Defender, a car which is infamous throughout the world now as being the one which had an entire year's production worth of faults fitted, so the rest of the year's production could be faultless! MT82 boxes don't seem to be vety expensive to buy. I bought a complete MT82/LT230 assembly from a breaker, about 1 year old, for about £300 not so long ago. It could cost you that to overhaul. |

It looks as though a good second-hand MT82 now goes for £500 to £800, that sort of figure.
