Avoid getting a spare just in case it gets nicked, they are pricey and everyone knows it! I got mine from 4x4tyres cheapest place I found

Is that the voice of (painful) experience speaking Bankz?

You can get locks for the spare but not so sure how good they are. I am looking at upgrading to Bowlers so always looking to hear from anyone with good/bad experiences. Being stolen wasn't quite what I had in mind however!

Nope not had one stolen, just not worth the risk. You can get locks and such but they are easily over come. I've never had to change a tyre at the side of the road in 8 years of driving (granted I only do 5k per year but still).

Get a steel wheel the same size, colour and offset and the same tyre and save yourself £250! Still lock it up but its 10x less desirable and will still get you home!

The alloys themselves are great, quite light, look brilliant, so far very robust (I did roll my 110 and got a small chip in one though Sad ) only downside is the clog up with clay/thick mud very easily and takes ages to wash off.

I've never heard any bad things about Bowlers, except the price and now the theft Shocked But to be fair, if they want them I would have thought they'd take them all. I'm afraid if I do get some I'd have to have a full set of 5 Embarassed But would invest in some more security shown here http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43038.html I really like the B4Lamb lock but not sure if it works with the Bowler or if it's available, it seems to have all gone quiet.

Thanks to Bankz and a few others I think I'm happy with the 16" rather than 18" based on not only price but on our use and I do sometimes look at 18" wheels and think the tyres look too skinny for a Defender, but purely personal taste. To be fair if some 18" came up at the right price I'd probably still go for them, cos they do look amazing. I used to be indecisive but now I can't decide Whistle James

I've got a high security bike lock running through mine. Set of 5 just seems like a total waste of money, all that extra cash and worry just have it look nice on the rear door...

Brendan's wheel lock works fine on my spare 18" Bowler using the middle sized adapter.

But it would look nice Embarassed and I like the idea old fashioned idea of rotating wheels every 3 months to actually use the spare wheel... is that enough of an excuse Whistle

Thanks Guy, I'll look in to that Thumbs Up James

^ I agree if you have alloys, then the rear one matches.

Don't like covers on them and sticking a steel on imho would not look right? Fine if you have 4 steels anyway but not with alloys...

How much is One Bowler 16" wheel £220 ? how much is a steel wheel new £70 as the tyre would be the same its £150 extra... no brainier for me that. Would look ACE Thumbs Up

Not sure I would go to the effort of swapping each wheel round every 3 months mind... My spare is brand new never used Shocked

My steel wheel and tyre was £170, Bowler + Tyre was £350. £180 difference. Lot of money just to hang something that looks nice of the back door.... If you do get a puncture thats the cost of a new tyre with a chunk of change.

Rotating seems like a waste of time as well, its a Defender its never going to wear evenly no matter what you do.

So you have a £25,000 + car

Your spending approx £1500 for the Bowlers wheels?

£180 for the extra bowler alloy over steel, really not a lot imho to look right, and not a bad thing to have on your back door Thumbs Up

How many Bowler owners buy just the 4 I wonder?

Good job we are all different Thumbs Up I think that £180 looks awesome Smile

Me too! Thumbs Up Very Happy Best wheels on the market in my opinion, but I do personally think 18" looks better than 16".
