2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Zermatt Silver

EGR removal

I've tried to read all the threads on this, but would like a little summary if possible.
Specifically:
- is there a technical reason (besides emissions) for keeping this valve?
- can it be removed and blanked off successfuly?
- is it the advised action (i'm out of warranty)?

- Anyone in you can recommend in SA?

I am about to do this exact thing this weekend. Got my kit from Alive - basically, when you think about it, the current system takes exhaust gas (i.e. waste) and puts it back into the engine with clean air.

To me, that seems like a recipe for disaster. I would have thought you would want clean air into the engine for maximum performance.

Simple kit I got was a EGR replacment flange & tube, blanking plate for other end . 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey

Cool, thanks - i'm still in two minds about blanking it...
Mine appears to work ok, maybe i'll just clean it now and again. www.ralton.co.za

My disco has had it blanked off the moment it left warranty.

I think if i blank my 90 off...i wont bother with the egr plate - ill just get Pete's patch to stop it working.

Far more elegant and if the valve is faulty you wont get any fault codes and it still can run its clean cycle etc etc Mike

It was my intention of cleaning it periodically with brake cleaner, but I never seem to have the time or the inclination! I have been running with a 10mm blank for what must be nearly a year now with no problems! I suppose the age old addage of " If it ain't broke, don't fix it" must apply to me! I also agree that preventative maintenance can be better than waiting for a problem to appear! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
