The bezels I had were plain rings and used OE fixing inns again.
Brendan now does a SS kit of fixings I believe but they are £20 ish so puts the cost up a bit but might be worth it. |

Upgrade the loom and the bulbs first. I run the Quad optics on my truck with relay switched direct cabling to the lamps with uprated bulbs. I think the light output is fantastic, at least as good as on my modern BMW.

I did them all at the same time so it's impossible to say which caused the biggest difference. Once you've got the front apart to do one, you might as well do the other. I would definitely change the wiring, it's about £25 for a kit (or you can get the bits yourself), easy to fit, and the switch is a known problem spot.
Having done it all, the light is a lot whiter, the beam goes out about the same distance but you can see stuff at distance rather than just wondering if there's something in the orange glow. |

Well, I've gone for The PM678 model kit from Paddock Spares and a pair of stainless bezels from Bolt on Bits.
I'm leaving the loom for the moment... if I melt the switch I'll replace it and put in a new loom! |

No need for a poll , both statements above are correct. 
To get the best bang for your buck as to light output of halogens, you do not need to change any wire routing in the truck, you can leave the juice run thru the lightstalk as before, so no real wiring changes needed, that is correct. But same time, you do upgrade the loom by taking the full juice away from the lightstalk, and just leave the stalk get a very small electric signal to command the lights. No more voltage losses, the full ~14.4V power generated by the alternator goes straight to the lights via the new loom, and that voltage is a world of difference for H4s. Loom upgrade detailed in below thread. The landreiziger upgraded loom is very good, I can confirm first hand. Also, no more risk of a melted light switch mechanism.

Almost forgot I still have the Landreiziger loom on my workbench!
Think I'll put it in coming week, but even without it, I'm already very satisfied with just the Wipac headlamps with Philips bulbs. |

I'm about to go back to original myself, meaning my clear SVX headlamps with the Land Rover upgraded H4 bulbs. So back to my pre-LED situation. Obviously leaving the landreiziger loom in place.
I'm actually curious how I will find that after running close to 3 years with the Speakers. I do remember that after putting in the upgraded H4 I was already pretty happy with the total light output of my SVX halogen front. What I will surely like about going back is that it will be the original look again. Light output, we will see. Now, why am I going to do this really? Well, in Sep when the truck will turn 7, I will have to pass for the first time the full version of the Swiss technical inspection (first was an off the main site inspection at 4 years), and we have good indications that in spite if all the proper E-markings, these LEDs were not specifically approved for a 2009 model year defender, and 99% chance they will make the truck fail its inspection. At the first inspection now almost 3 years ago, the Speakers were not installed yet, but from inquiring with that inspector at the time, it was already clear that the Swiss equivalent of the "MOT" is even more rigid and unforgiving than the German version, don't even want to compare with the UK version. going off at a slight tangent here.
I've had the crystals for sometime now and the polycarb finish is not smooth / shiny anymore. It's just the bottom half on both and I do wonder if it's a build up of car shampoo over the years? Any how any suggestions on how / what I should use to bring them back to their original finish I'm is it a case of 'wishful thinking' and time for a new pair? cheers. |
