3.2 tdci Engine Transplant Companys
Mate of mine has a 2016 130.

Hes covered 20k now. We were talking the other eve & he said its so under powered compaired to his old TD5 which was tuned to the max & would pull a house down

I said why not drop a 3.2 tdci in Cool . As he wants to keep it he would like to know who out there would under take the job of fitting one & poss auto box & at what cost??

Whitest I understand that most of the conversion is not the nuts and bolts aspect. However the cost in the U.K is more than a used ford/Mazda with that engine! That being said I would love the conversion because "her indoors" doesn't like the transmission lash and manual gears. This would allow me too get rid of the town car and just run the puma and MGRV8!👍

Seems crazy that the conversion (just engine?) is £15 to £20k


You could probably buy a basic ford ranger 3.2 for £15K swap the engines over and then sell the ranger as a 2.2 Smile

That's an awful lot of labour? does it need new mounts, bulkhead, ecu, wiring etc etc?


For that money head to Wildcat and get the full monty Very Happy


Your mate may be better spending around £1500 on a remap, different oil cooler, exhaust and then maybe a bespoke turbo?

You should see 175 - 185 bhp relatively cheaply, what's the 3.2 as std? 198 bhp? not much in it for the money involved.

I have heard that the auto in the ford/Mazda 3.2 is a bit marginal and problems are not that unknown. However in these parts this may originate from the mining sector. From my experience they where regularly doing CV's and boots! Moving back on too the point, for that kind of dough I would be leaning towards an LS3! Thumbs Up Diesel is becoming a bit politically on the nose in conjested European cities, this is something too also consider! Thumbs Up

I think big Steve will have a full time job fitting these lumps sooner or later. I'm secretly wanting my 2.4 to blow up. Its not the extra bhp that makes this engine brilliant. Its the extra pot and all that torque. A 180hp 2.4 will be quite stressed but a 220hp 3.2 will be happy as Larry and give a lot more torque which in a 4x4 is the actual power you use. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

The 3.2 does look like the engine that should have been in the Puma Defenders straight out of the factory (adding a duplex primary would be nice), unfortunately a fitting kit has never materialised, wish I had the time (and skills, ability, equipment, patience) to develop one myself.
I'm sure there would be enough takers for a group buy.

It'll happen eventually. Its the best engine for it unless you want 500hp but that's pretty excessive for most defenders. 200bhp and all that torque is more than enough for a workhorse. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

Until engines are cheap and readily available it's still an exspensive conversion there was never many transit 3.2 engines and Albert it the ranger enshrine is similar it's a different eco so it's basically starting again with a solution 😔
Which is lots of money and times

People spend £5k+ on defender interiors so I'm sure they will pay for a decent motor. Hardly worth taking a good engine out but if and when it goes bang then makes total sense. 2009 2.4TDCi XS Utility Wagon.

But will they ever be cheap? What few Transit 3.2's there are will end up having the price driven up by Defender owners buying them.

Just like L322 20" alloy wheels are expensive, because all the VW owners buy them to stick on Transporters (direct fit apparently).
