yeah, i'll get it stashed away under the bed at home I think... save it for a sunny day!
Someone asked about the slick shift... it was a really easy job, and has improved the lt77... it's still clunky but less so. |

Further developments on the 90!
The hard roof conversion has now happened. Paint was a real problem. I'd been told that the car is Signal Blue... so ordered some from Paintman. Seems that is actually a totally different colour, a much darker shade. Mine is actually RAL5012 'light blue' for reference and matches perfectly. Got that paint and sorted it all out. Just got back door lock, seat belt mounts and all the door seals to do and its finished. Proper pictures soon but until then... Front roll cage stays as is. Might have it extended back to cover the rear section too. Really happy with it - have got so much done over the last few weeks.
Got a chance to take it around some lanes in Farnham/Hindhead yesterday and it was great. Nice and warm and dry inside... no flappy roof. Lots of simple tweaks around the whole vehicle made it a total pleasure to drive. Looking really good there I think it would finish it of with the roll bar continued to go over the back part and will protect it when out doing the green lanes 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.

Been away a lot but probably a few things have changed since last update.
Either way, nice to see the round Def2 sticker matches my car pretty well... Click image to enlarge Got an Ian Dixon rear winch tray ready to go on with another TDS 9.5i for the rear. Its pretty much a solid weapon now but I guess there's always little bits to do. I did pick up a spare original Def 200tdi engine that may go on at some point... rather than it's slightly weird Disco 200 with 2.5td manifold and turbo botched on. So it's currently a high mounted turbo Disco engine... all a bit weird... when this one eventually goes at least I have a spare to go in that is correct. |

Oh, actually a cheeky video before some of that work was done! PAS was squealing like a pig all day and I'm pretty sure thats because the bearing had collapsed pretty early on... it probably did another 200 miles on its last legs.

So many developments.
Ashlocker in the rear end with their 300m shafts. Front has a truetrac LSD in it. Now featuring Maxxis creepy crawler 35/12.5/15s on 15x10 -32 offset mods with WKD beadlock rings. Absolute monsters and really set the car off. Arches from Tomcat motorsport, expensive but very neat. Other tweaks are XS half leather heated seats I got for a snip locally. Theres also a Fourby boost controller which took about 2 mins to install and delivers way more boost at a safe level than I could get it to with standard tweaks. TBH I'm at the point where I just need time to add mud! ... and maybe some Ashcroft front shafts, CVs and another airlocker... I think that the wheels and arches have just taken the car next level. Its already a total animal off road so can't wait to try the new wheels out. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Well the old engine's head gasket went a bit dodgy. Considering I had the perfect spare engine, an original Def 200tdi sitting around I thought I'd do it up and get it in there!
All in! Including a new Clutchfix HD organic with the Nigel Barker HD fork. New silicone hoses, new carbon airbox. New starter, alt, cambelt, plus the Fourby boost controller. All installed a lot neater than the old setup so lots of new hosing, cable routing, engine loom, it was a pig of a job... just a few things to neaten up but it's all running and moving again. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Will see how it goes with the airbox, the old one was trashed and a bit of an awkward fit so lets see... its maybe a bit small but essentially a casing for a cone filter. It seems to drive and boost fine...My first ever engine swap complete! |
