[Sold] Karitek Roof Rack
Hi,
I am selling my Karitek roof rack as circumstances have changed and i now have a full roof rack.
These are great pieces of kit and really help in loading kayaks and bikes to the roof of the car.

The rack is in excellent condition and ideally would be collected due to the size, dependant upon where the buyer comes from i could arrange to meet at somewhere on the A1 / M1 etc.

Karitek Roof rack for Defender £275 includes 1 pair of J bars
Thule Roof Bars £75
2 of Thule 591 cycle carriers £90

I have been looking for one of those for a while. Expensive new and £90 postage to France direct for Karitek! A pity I am so far away from you 🙁

Because of various deck fittings on my canoe it makes sliding on a full roof rack from the back not so easy

Thanks, they are excellent racks and I've been very pleased with it.

They're £450 new and a set of J bars is over £50 so its quite a bargain.

The full weight of the tent when in use would be supported by the 2 roof bars when the rack is on the roof so i would of thought it would be ok.

The rack can easily carry 3 kayaks and they're just over 20kg each, i have not put 4 kayaks on before but there is room.

Cheers

Hi Darren, can the Karitek upper part be disconnected from the lower part relatively easily?

I haven't explained that very well Neutral

I read somewhere that the sliding mechanism can be removed when not in use and you can just leave the basic attachment fixed to the roof bars. Is this the case?

I have a 35kg tandem SOTYAK and it's a bit of a handful loading and unloading. Not sure if the Karitek is the way to go but I may be interested. Need to do a little more research and see what the bank manager has to say Thumbs Up

Cheers,

Will

Hi Will,

Yes the top sliding mechanism is easily removable, to remove you loosen 2 of 8mm screws on each rail, move a hinge and thats it.

A 35kg boat would be reasonably straight forward to mount on the rack.

Cheers

Hi Darren,
Thanks for the prompt and very helpful response Thumbs Up

For the avoidance of any doubt, I think it's an absolute bargain!

It does look as though the Karitek is the solution for me.

I think I need to have a conversation with SWMBO and assess the post Christmas finances (don't we all)! Rolling with laughter

Rather ironically, we travel to MK every Feb half term to visit relatives - alas this year they've only gone on holiday abroad (maybe they're trying to tell me something).

I shall get back to you over the next couple days Darren. Let's hope I'm quick enough! I shall pm you.

Cheers,

Will

Hi Will,

No problem. As you note I have priced it all quite cheaply, the Karitek costs around £450 new. Great bit of kit though, always received lots of positive and what a great idea comments at the Kayaking club!

Cheers

Thanks Darren - thanks for your help today and it was great to chat about a number of things we have in common apart from the Defenders!

I'm absolutely delighted with the purchase and I'll take some pics when I've done my fine-tuning and got the kayak on board.

It was a great journey both ways, and despite the majority of the route being M's, it was a joy to drive the Defender and give it a blast.

Thanks again Darren.

Cheers,

Will

PS great brew by the way!

Last one isn't a great shot Darren but you did ask!

I can't believe just how easy it is to get the kayak on the Defender - one handed!

Thanks again Darren - I'm well chuffed Thumbs Up
