Defender lights
Bought first defender and have not got a clue what to do next. Am converting it from a soft top back to hardtop and am trying to get lights to work. Don't have any side or dipped lights at front or back but did have back lights about week ago. If I flash lights using indicator stalk the front headlights do work. Have been told to look at switch and have opened the plug and used a meter which I bought and tested the plug end coming to the switch and got a reading of about 5 volts. Any help is appreciated as on a very steep learning curve.

The lower switch which turns on the headlights is notorious for arcing and failing. I think from memory the full beam flash will bypass the switch which is why that might work. I don't know about Pumas but on the older vehicles a few screws hold in the plastic trim around the steering column. Once you have that off you can extract the switch, it should be fairly obvious if it's been arcing as the contact dimples will be damaged. Easy to replace.

Back vs front lights sounds like a dodgy earth somewhere in the rear perhaps. Try the drivers side rear corner. Ed
