Defender Recall R/2014/092 FRONT WHEEL MAY DETACH

Has anyone experienced problems with the fitted plates knocking on acceleration decceleration? I believe this is caused by insufficient clearance in the holes surrounding the bolt heads. This problem is likely to accelerate the potential failure of the axle casing.

Thanks for the reply. I have enlarged the holes slightly but the problem persists - if anything it is worse. I am trying to contact Landrover. I'll post their response if I get one.

How and when did they contact you about the recall? Only I still haven't heard anything and I'm in the recall range.

You should have had a letter through the dealer network, assuming that you haven't changed your address and not informed DVLA. Alternatively you can check for a recall on https://www.gov.uk/check-if-a-vehicle-has-been-recalled.

I had a letter in December 2014 just before I drove to Devon. I booked it in to a dealer down there almost before they had heard of the modification which consists of a plate fitted to prevent detachment of the front hub should the weld fail. In my opinion LR should have recalled the axle for checks as the mod doen't prevent the weld failing - only the complete detachment of the hub should it do so. It's a bit like providing a parachute when it is known the aircraft could catch fire!

From memory it applies to Defenders produced between mid 2010 to mid 2011.

Hmm.

My Defender is in the VIN range and the DVLA knows where I live.
I guess I should probably call Land Rover. Not that I can really see the point of having the wheel fall off slightly less badly.

I agree. I'd pop in to a dealer who I think will be keen to do the job as it is a mandatory recall. Best to get it done, crap solution as it is, because your Insurance company will probably take the view of culpable negligence if you don't. I took the Mods off to prove they were the problem. Then reluctantly refitted them.
