I blew the head gasket on a 2.5 turbo Subaru Forrester on xmas eve in snow on the motorway in the dark with a pregnant wife. oh, and found out my AA cover had expired the week before.
And when i saw blew, i mean exploded out of the air intake and back over the windscreen which shattered while doing 70 in the outside lane past a lorry. i wouldnt buy one again! |

First time mine seized it was on the A34 in the outside lane, overtaking a truck. Clunk, rattle, brrrrrrrrr......
Second time, after the first "repair" my wife was driving, overtaking a truck on the A303. Boy was she ![]() On neither occasion was there any warning, oil light, over-temperature, rattling. I bloody hate Subarus. |

I've just bought a new 3.2 litre Ford Ranger automatic and like it. Civilised to drive yet with a useful load area separate from the cabin. Has all the bits that people want to add to their Defenders plus more.
I've had umpteen Series, Defenders Discoveries [and RR's + wife had a new Freelander a few years back] in the past but a D4 would not be for me now. Lack of local JLR dealerships in the area these days along with the stupid service charges of JLR products and variable warranty approach is a real PITA. Steve. Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades. Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW. [Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc] http://forums.lr4x4.com I used to be Miserable ...but now I'm ecstatic. Freelander2 - we had a XS from new, 48k in 5 years and apart from normal service items, the only failure was 1 sidelight bulb, as a good all rounder it was almost b100dy perfect!
