Has anyone fitted or know more about the Roamerdrive? A sixth gear for a Defender!

Sorry , should have said it is a TD5, and has a tune box attached. He did have one problem early on with a collapsed bearing, apparently a bad batch, however the customer service was excellent and my mate was happy with how they dealt with it. Four years later he still really rates it.

I have had the Roamerdrive in my TtD5 for over 2 years now. No issues whatsoever. By far the best mod I have done. it's a Landrover thing...

Interesting! Thanks for the feed back. This may be the way to go then. I read you can swap the gearbox out but I would rather keep the original and add to it, like the roamerdrive. Better start saving the pennies!!! Mike

I had the earlier version, Roverdrive on my Series 1, only removed to fit a rear PTO.

I had one installed recently on my TD5 and have now put 4000km on it.
At first it made quite a bit of noise which was a bit upsetting but finally after the breaking in period the noise is gone. It's not really a 6th gear. The best way to look at it is thinking about adding a bigger front ring on a bicycle. When the bigger ring is engaged it changes how many times you have to turn the pedals to get the same speed. It therefore affects all the 5 gears rather than giving you an extra gear. To be honest I'm not sure how I got along without it. Defenders arent really build for high speed but it sure is nice to be able to keep up with traffic and cover longer distances. It also makes higher speeds more fuel efficient since you are not constantly pushing the engine to keep up high revs. 1999 Defender 110 2003 P38 2007 RR SC "And that's why it needs to be celebrated, because when the Defender goes we'll have lost this pointer to where we came from, and we're really going to miss it." Can you not just fit a puma box. I have a 380 gearbox in the mgr and it is a better shifter but there was a conversion kit for the earlier defenders I believe too six speed. Puma box is strong though!
