Good old tools are the 300 TDI Discos and after having used an Es one as a smoker for the past year I personally think of them as the thinking mans Defender!

I had a 200tdi a few years back as a green laner and it was a great bit of kit. Bought at auction by a mate in the trade. Picked it up and as it had the fuel warning light on, drove straight to the petrol station. Bad news was the fuel sender was broken. Good news the tank was full of diesel first proper trip out in it discovered the boot floor was rotten when the water container went through it
Used it for about two years, often left unused for a couple of weeks, and regularly ran on veg oil (it was less than 50p a litre then) and always started on the button. Eventually got rid of it as I'd bought my 90, the gear box was on its way out (although I had a spare) and the body was beyond economical repair for me. The guy I sold it two patch it up, and ran it for at least another 3 years before pulling the engine out to put in his series 3. Awesome motor and I'd have another one if I could find one that wasn't rotten, or been thrashed round a pay and play site. Disco 1s are almost exclusively seen round me with zillions of lights, beacons, stickers, brightly coloured suspension lifts and they have rather put me off owning one.

Been a busy few weeks, son is prepping disco, fixed brake lights, headlining and working on the dash next. As with lots of disco 1's it's going to need a new boot floor but the rest seems quite good.
Picked up a set a of new take off 235's yesterday, so will be off to do a major wheel tyre swap with the defender and disco, probably ending up with a set of brand new boosts with no tyres Disco is a P Reg with 2 owners and 120k miles, manual, with diff lock, central locking on remote so when house move complete, will be out on the plains with #1 son....
