There is a recurring theme of abject stupidity running through the LR clips in this thread!

I wonder if "Tommy" has ever stopped to consider what a dimwit he sounds to be in his vids. Perhaps he is proud of his astute , witty, and sparkling observations.

The problem is that to many 'normal' people, this is how all 4x4 drivers are perceived to be.

I find all of these types of videos awful. As a Yorkshireman myself the thick as ditchwater northern accents hurt my ears, along with the utter ignorance of common sense or any understanding of health and safety. Why would anyone drive a Land Rover into a lake like that? A novice might do, but not someone with experience wouldn't. Overall they just give anyone into Land Rovers or 4x4s a bad name. One day they will kill someone doing this kind of thing. 2011 110 USW

A blocked dump valve on the air intake was the culprit.

Looked like quite the opposite to me - it wasn't sealed properly and that's where the water was getting in - well at least one of the places...

Oh yes, they are the typical public view of the "tearing up the countryside" illegal off roaders.

Still we can make up for it keeping our dish up right so to speak. Thumbs Up

I don't think a dob of sealant is really a good solution there, the rubber is just so flexible. A better solution might be to either melt it shut or replace completely with a blanking plug.

It's a bit like manhandling a heavy boat across dry land and wondering why it's hard work.

The Tetley Tea folk language just adds to the effect. Steve.

And maybe a lesson in buying an electric winch, never using it & then having it let you down when you do finally get it out.

Maybe he should have tried to spool it out first, that way he wouldn't have been left with metres of rope that he couldn't get back on the drum.

I thought they were designed as one way valves, so one in working order would let stuff out but not in?

In theory fine but the example in the video was not in the best condition; even one is relatively good condition might suffer under those conditions - ask a lady who waterskis Whistle

If it is the site I am thinking off it is NOT a pay and play site.

It is an illegal site which the council and police have been trying to close permanently now for a number of years. There has been at least one fatality on that site. Some reading here

Also the illegal use of that site causes problems on the nearby main A road due to illegal parking, illegal riding of motorbikes on the main road, farm gates being blocked etc. The site is beginning to regenerate with vegetation. When the quarry was very active with illegal driving excess rainwater used to run off the site bringing clay onto the main road. Now I do not know whether the council or land owners have provided ditches to prevent this clay/silt run off in heavy rain or if the renewal of vegetation is doing the job.
