Buying a car without v5
Car a SAAB 9000 was bought by brother for sister, she registered it in her name last week, failed MOT today, she has green slip only as previous owner sent of V5 to DVLA. how can I buy the car off her legally! DVLA is only recognised legal way of showing you are the owner although it is no good to her at moment no MOT TAX or insurance!M

I think you can register the vehicle with a form called a V62, without the need of a V5 My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years.

The V5 is only a record of who is the registered keeper not the legal owner.

You could only do that if you had garage trade plates fitted.

If you are on the way to a garage for an mot and got stopped you would be OK if the garage confirmed you were due in
But you can insure the vehicle to be on the road to drive to the MOT centre My confidence has been writing cheques that my abilities can't cash for years.

thanks it did have an mot until April but the new owner re tested it thinknig it didn,t have an MOT and it failed, I suppose the new MOT supercedes the old one!

It doesn,t have tax, wonder if the tax automated telephone service would recognise the old MOT which runs out in April.

https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status
Put details in this and it will tell you if MOT is still valid or not

Yes done that thanks! That's how I got the info...

apparently the old mot according to an mot station which runs out in April should still be valid even though it failed
today, however insurance company may not see it that way he said...

You can drive to a pre-arranged MOT at a local test station without tax and MOT or in a SORNed vehicle but you must have insurance in place covering you driving that vehicle providing at least the minimum 3rd Party insurance.
