I THINK that may be the problem - if i understood the mechanic when my 2nd clutch broke, the new spec clutch is NOT made by Ford.... www.ralton.co.za |

Sooner or later LR must get one (HD) to work and do a 100k, or am I being too hopeful?

My '07 Puma had a new clutch and IIRC it was within the first year of ownership, after that the transmission was much quieter on tickover and under load.
My new USW has no rattles, touch wood and fingers crossed it stays that way. During the present cold spell the idle has been lumpy on first start up. Steve. Just called a Clutch Manufacturer in Hereford, Had an interesting chat with him.
As we thought the rough engine is the issue. I asked if he could make me a clutch that could handle the vibrations or roughness of the engine. He said that there would be no point, the roughness at the moment is being taken up in the clutch springs, if they were harder or tougher then the vibration/roughness will pass into the gearbox that in turn will fail. So the fix is to sort the engine out and make it run smoother 130's have feeling's as well you know |

Very interesting thanks for passing that information on. I think the chances are less for getting the engine to run smoother than getting a clutch to work. Thinking aloud if Ford had not insisted that LR use the Puma I wonder what we would have now? totaly pointless but it would be nice to have somesort of straight six or V6. I love the sound of the TD5 but they tell us that it would never had met emissions targets (if that is true). |

Interesting point of view and make me sense.
So, The root problem is the motor roughness that probably affects some cars (due the fact that not all of us have the issue) In this case, the clutch is the fuse and if you improve it, probably the transfer will be broken (more expensive). Probably, for this reason some of you have changed the clutch so many times without good results. Is there a way to "measure" the roughness? in this case we can compare if the more rough cars have more problems with clutch. I hope that som LR representative can read it. This is why I created this poll basically its showing that some cars keep requiring new clutches so these are I presume the 'rough' ones. My 130 seems to be at its roughest in 5th gear at 59 - 61 mph when on the gas. You can also hear the clutch chattering its poor heart out at the same time. Mick I will be having a chat with Pete 130's have feeling's as well you know |

Clutch changed at around 10k miles, but real improvement came when gearbox chaned shortly after. HOWEVER...now starting to suffer the 'driveline self-destruct' noise when coasting to rest after a period of motorway cruising - sounds like the rear propshalf juddering between drive/overrun due to something at the trasnfer box end causing interference. Had the transmission brake drum changed (allegedly out of true) but this hasn't solved the problem.
Mech at dealers 'could we go for a quick drive to have a listen?' Me: 'Yes, probably best we head from here (West Sussex) to at least the Midlands...' Intermittent faults - marvellous... 1953 80 1965 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce Sprint 1980 Fiat 124 Spider 2008 110xs |

I think I`m the top 1 user. Also my flywheel shows signs of slip. Anybody tried to have a technical reply from LR about these clutchs. Sick of going through "know-squad dealers".
