I need a new front numberplate for the front of our 110. Since fitting the winch and bumper i no longer have room for the standard size numberplate.
What i need is a square front plate (same size as some alfa romeos and mitsubishi evos) unfortunately none of the local motorfactors can do anything but a normal shaped one. Some of the 'show plate' manufacturers online do road legal ones with the correct BS marking, font, reflective background and spacing. However as far as i understand the supply of thses is illegal az they shiuld require ID and proof of vehicle ownership to suply a number plate. I am not sure if I am breaking the law buying or using one of these though? The only issue i can see after reading the dvla/gov regulations is the absence of the suppliers postcode on the bottom. This should be easy to rectify though. Anyone got any ideas? Cheers Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

I use these as it it easier than going through all the agro. Never been pulled with them. And they do come with a post code on them anyway.
Proper spacing etc. I think Mr plod has better things to do |

To be honest with cherished numbers I generally buy them online as quicker than getting all the docs together & going to a local motorists store.
Order today via ebay delivered tomorrow. I also go for road legal & if they have the manufacture's post code on them I'm not sure I'm doing anything wrong. Usually if they come from NI they never ask for any info so maybe I'm helping to fuel an illegal number plate manufacturing operation ! They are perhaps breaking the law I did not think I was 2020 P300 HSE |

I just buy my fully road legal plates from eBay. Not that they would ever be bothered but how on earth would the plod be able to prove you didn't show your documents/proof, as far as I'm aware there is no record keeping by the plate makers.
I've had two sets in the last few weeks from here. They arrived next day in both cases and are perfectly legal. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201402092382 |

Oh Believe me the legal machines are regularly audited we produce our own plate here fully legal the record keeping has to be spot on
the BS / Post code is just one of those reasons that a Rozzer / VOSA etc can use would they ever spot bothered to tug you just for that I cant answer but why give the reason ? |

A motorbike plate is highly likely to get you pulled nowadays.

Number plate suppliers must be registered - see here.
To be honest, no, you're not likely to get stopped just for the number plate. If, however, you get a zealous officer, a bored one or one who thinks you have failed the attitude test they will likely crawl all over your car to make it worth having to fill in the paperwork for the initial stop. It's a ticketed offence and (usually) an absolutely cast-iron easy conviction for them if you contest it (also a nice day out for the PC to sit in court reading a book waiting for the case to be called on). Summary - it's not worth the risk since the FPN (or fine, costs and surcharge if you contest it) is probably as much as the cost of properly legal plates... |

I've used Demon Plates a few times,
you can "tweek" the plate or have it fully legal, they ask for a picture of your drivers licence & V5 etc to be text or emailed at the end of the process also very fast delivery http://www.demonplates.com/ |

I use online services regularly for bikes and cars (Impact plates...I think), in fact I have their plates on our van and two classic cars, as well as bikes...not had any issues either by the Police or at MOT time...and they are show plates.

Most on line plate suppliers, if you read the small print, get round any legality such as ID proof,V5 etc. by saying that the plates are 'Show Plates' and not for legal road use. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
