LT77 Gearbox Question
Hi - Trust everyone is having a great weekend. I have a question on the LT77 gearbox on my 85 D90. Off late when trying to engage reverse the shifting is not smooth and it is quite an effort to engage reverse. Had it looked at a local shop here in Florida, and they replaced a bushing (conveyed to me), but the problem still persists.

Can someone please advise what part should be I looking to replace to get this sorted? I will order the part from Ashcroft and will have the local LR dealer here put it in. Please also advise if this issue is indicative of the gearbox being on its last leg.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Could be a number of things. 1st thing i'd check would be the reverse light switch (if it is sticking/notchy). Remove and test selection.

Thanks for your response. I have the gearbox tunnel out right now. Where is the reverse light switch connected? I will test this now and hopefully get this sorted.

Found the switch. Giving it a shot now by removing and testing the selection.

Hi had the same problem, first remove the rubber gear gaiter or lift it up, you will then see the top of the alloy gear selector housing check for wear mine had badly worn not expensive to replace , then remove the deriten ball and spring housing two bolts located on the side of the gear selector it has shims so don't loose them. strip the spring housing clean the ball and spring apply grease when reassembling then refit.could also be worth removing the alloy gear selector top, again not a hard job clean and grease up. Hope this helps.
