I'm afraid not sorry
![]() I had a quick measure up and the frame I have is too wide and would be far to difficult to modify ![]() I have chosen the Iron Goat console because to my eye it looks far better than the Mud one or the Raptor-Eng one and has an aluminium sub skin which makes it much more sturdy than the others. However, as with all these things it will be a slow evolution as I need to look at many other things such as positioning, in relation to what goes on it but also where on the new dash it goes (if its not in the middle it will look very off) as well as clearance for passenger knees in the centre seat - if this dosn't work then I will have to start looking more seriously at cubby boxes which is annoying as I like the versatility of the centre seat and use it quite regularly. Irritatingly most of the issues I have could be solved by ether a roof console or a cubby box but I need the centre seat and cant fit a roof console as I have a sun roof! Now you say that yet someone on a facebook group the other day said that with a very minor mod he fitted the overhead console fine with a sunroof. He was supposed to post back the following day how he did it but no sign since. He sounded very convincing but then the best

Thought I'd update here about the Wolf wheels.
First of all here she is on Silver Modulars, 265/75/16 General Grabber At2 ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Note the depth of the studs, on modulars the nut comes right flush with the end of the stud. ![]() Click image to enlarge The wolfs are much thicker in the center because of the ticker guage of plate used. They also have pressed nut "chamfered sockets" which allow the nut to exert its clamping force over the entire area of the chamfer rather than rely on the thickness of the plate to supply the chamfer. This gives a much larger clamping area and spreads the load more evenly to the wheel and nut and preserves the thickness of the material around the stud. It does however give the effect of looking like the studs aren't long enough. This is extenuated on rear drum braked vehicles as the thickness of the drum has the effect of making the stud slightly shorter. You can fit longer studs (FRC7577) but at about £4 per stud your looking at the best part of £120- and thats if your going to fit yourself + the additional cost of wheel bearing grease and axle oil (which you may as well do as your in there) The army have been fitting Wolf wheels to earlier vehicles with rear drums like mine for years and there is a letter (though I am yet to actually track it down and read it) from Land Rover Technical to the MOD which clearly states that fitting Wolf wheels to earlier vehicles is perfectly safe as the length of the nut engaged on the thread and the counter bore of the wheel is more than strong enough and the 1-2 threads not engaged would not pose any danger. This is also accompanied with the advice that Wolf/Hd wheels are to be torqued up to 170Nm rather than the standard 100nm for standard wheels or 130nm for alloys. My view is, if it is good enough for the army and countless other people to fit wolfs like this it is more than enough for me. If I am shown good evidence to say otherwise I will reconsider this but I cant justify that sort of expense for a set of wheels. However, as a precaution (and because I like them) I have added nut indicators just in case something decides to move. So here she is. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Annoyingly I knocked one of the hub covers loose while fitting a wheel and it leaked ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge One thing I will have to investigate is my tracking as my drivers side front tyre looked like this ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge Weirdly there was no wandering or feeling of dragging or any adverse driving characteristics as you would expect with this much of a deviation but the depth of tread differs by about 3mm from outside(thinnest) to inside (thickest) Elsewhere the centre dash was progressed by fitting the 2 gauges and dash centre. ![]() Click image to enlarge I would love to hear from anyone who can open up gauges as I want to paint the tachometer white to match the others. ![]() Click image to enlarge Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197 Self confessed mileage hunter ![]() |

Thank You Fatboyslim! Will let you know if she does, but it may be some time in the future if ever!
Interesting point Landy Novice! Might just be the angle as it was the other wheel which had the unusual wear, all the others were a bit more normal. How can I check the swivel pins? The bearings have no play in them at all and have no ill noises so I'd say they were fairly sound. Otherwise its a bent front axle or stub axle which is a bit more of an issue. Hi guys,
Long time no updated (my apologies ![]() Anyway, bank holiday weekend! During the week I did some sneaky ebaying and picked up a pair of series 3 headlight surrounds in a sort of gross yellow blue grey colour. I took them to a a friendly chap a few units down at work with a small cabinet blaster who in exchange for some beer tokens removed the paint leaving me with this! ![]() Click image to enlarge To my delight they were in remarkably good condition so i gave them a coat of etch primer ready for a coat of black ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge I then had a go at fitting my front spring retainers and my day started to go a bit wrong. Jacked up the front passenger wheel and had a look and for the life of me I cannot figure out how it sits as every position I put it in it ether hit the shock absorber or seemed to be floating around in space and not really holding anything much together. Here are the pics; ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Has anyone fitted these and have a picture they can send me? does my spring need rotating or re fitting? I then got on with adjusting my steering stops to stop my new BFG's from rubbing on my hockey sticks which went fine (girlfriend even came out to help with both spanners and steering!) However when dropping the drivers side wheel back down I noticed it deflect. I jacked it back up and gave it a rock and sure enough click clunk click clunk. Now, is it wheel bearing or swivel bearings? Was rocking at 12-6 o'clock with a notable clunk which may explain my weird tier wear here ![]() Click image to enlarge But it was also having a bit of a rock at 3-9 o'clock. Does anyone have any suggestions? Annoyingly its now a bank holiday weekend and everywhere will be closed ![]() Now, where is that 130 I have been looking at......... You need to get someone (that very helpful girlfriend of yours perhaps!?) to rock the wheel while you look from behind and see what is moving relative to everything else. If the disk is moving and the swivel hub remaining still then it's wheel bearings. If the disc and the swivel hub are moving together and the swivel ball staying still then it'll be the swivel pins.
As for your spring retainers, I suspect it's those spring isolators that are causing the problem, as they will raise the bottom of the spring 10mm or so which will be enough for the isolator to then start interfering with the shock tube. I put my isolators on the top, using the ones which are built into the turret rings |

From what I remember seeing from when dropping the jack down it is the swivel bearing as the whole assembly moved. I will have to employ the girlfriend to "learn more about vehicles" on Monday and check
![]() It isn't a complete surprise as the passenger side top pin was changed in 2013 as it was found to be excessively warn. I believe them to be both be original at 23 years old and 164300 miles which isn't bad innings. I have spring isolators at the top too so I think its time to get rid of the ones at the bottom. I think they are causing more issues than they are worth! Thanks for the input as always very helpful and what keeps this forum ticking! ![]() ![]() Self confessed mileage hunter ![]() |
