Hockey stick bushes
Hello,
question, is a six ton press big enough to fit standard hockey stick bushes? Im asking because there's a big difference in price between a six and twelve ton press. Unless someone knows a way to get them in without a press.
Thanks.

I've done all mine just using a Record No.4 vice. I ended up doing mine twice last year as I had been fobbed off on some cheap Chinese things that looked right but only lasted a couple of months so I ended up having to replace them with genuine.

Done mine twice now without the use of a press (OE type, not polyurethane).

As long as the surfaces are clean & smooth and well lubricated I have found that they can be driven home with careful use of a hammer striking a correctly sized spacer (I have a piece of steel tubing that is perfect for the job).
Just belt the hell out of it, get it stuck at an angle or burr the edges and you have no chance.

Likewise removing the old bush is a breeze.
Drill all the way through the rubber with a holesaw and remove the centre-sleeve, cut a slot in the outer-sleeve and then tap it out. Easy. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Just did this on mine, was a Censored of a job! Arms came off no probs, great I thought to my self, off to a good start, old bushes took some shifting but nothing too desperate. Putting the new ones in though, they flat out refused to go in, I started off with a 6 ton press, and the little beggars wouldn't shift, so moved on to the spacer and hammer method, still no joy, so after a lot of swearing, I gave in and bought some super pro poly bushes, which went in, in about 30 seconds! Shocked
Really don't know why the rubber ones wouldn't go in, they were defiantly the right ones, the edges weren't burred and everything was lubed up. Mind you if I had a 10 ton press, that might have been a different story.

Thanks for the reply. I got the old ones out ok with the help of a drill and hacksaw. I cant find anything the right size to match the bush. I haven't even got a socket big enough. Im sure I'll find something. I read somewhere that putting the bush in the freezer for a couple of hours helps.
