After exhaustive research, enquiry and deliberation. At the end of production (possibly) I went all in.
Presenting my new Keswick Green 110. Hugely excited, but before i receive it, it's going to the so solid crew at Flatdog Uk to have some extra love shown to it. List of mods includes Roll Cage Lights Wheels / Tyres Shocks / springs underbody guards Extra battery / split charge Alive 185bhp tune momo steering privacy glass and more.. If anyone is selling or knows where I could get this sort of Bull Bar from http://www.northyorkshire.police.uk/media/image/t/a/LandRover.JPG I would really really appreciate it. Been looking all over to no avail. They've been banned in the Uk since '07 apparently but as the vehicle is for export I won't have an issue with that. There are some hugely specced defenders on here and there are some happily quiet baseline ones. I love the fact that people can do what they want to them and theirs. More than that though I love the fact that people on here are very committed and passionate about knowing their vehicles and very live and let live about what others do to theirs. And that's why I came, for the community. I'm not an overly technical person when it comes to automotive engineering but I do want to know this vehicle inside out and be able to work with it and on it and hand it over to the next generation if possible. Look forward to getting to know you all a bit more. Shall post updates as they become available. Thanks to all those who helped in the original questions of who to trust for the build. Though Flatdog didn't come up, they're the ones settled with. Thanks for all your advice. The Adventure Begins here… |

Hi TT.
It looks good thank you, the only thing is i'm not sure what works with a Puma with aircon, which is what I have. Not sure what it's off but i'll ask the guys at Flatdog and see if it might fit. |

Thanks Venomator,
It was either Keswick Green or Stornoway Grey. Had there been a Tamar blue.... Click image to enlarge It would have been a no brainer. Also I don't know about the rest of you, whether you have a twinge of 'what if' upon seeing your new pride and joy, but for a long slow second, I thought... should have gotten a utility. But i'm very happy with it and it works well for where it's going. That continent where Defenders made their name. Africa, the rugged west coast of... Ivory Coast, Ghana, Benin, Nigeria etc.. It'll be interesting to provide the forum with some pics of daily drives on roads and through terrain that defenders earned their spurs over. |

Hello Bastion First...great project and your timing is spot on also... 'a keeper in the making'.... Second..that Bull Bar, I had one similar fitted to my 300tdi (now sold) it was rearranged for me in 2005 by a Post Office Van and so was replaced with a near enough identical Bar but this one had the 'soft' over covers on the two central structural elements. Initially the main reason for fitting it was to protect those wing corners from parking knocks as this Defender lived on the streets of London for the first 3 years of its life and it defiantly worked, as while I never hit anything there were at least three 'witness' marks before the Post Office big one, even then the Bar did mean that the damage was reduced. The other reason for fitting was to mount the Spot Lights. I too read various things about the banning of these, saw the various 'softer' versions enter the market but this went through its MOT without issue up to 2013. (if an MOT is one place that may pick up one what is or isn't fitted as it should be). Now I'm running a 2.4 Puma with AC, and have looked at this various times my main reason now is the fitting of Spot Lights and whilst now living in the country and the Defender is seldom parked near many other vehicles I guess I'll take my chances as this type of Bar is less common. But what I do know is that the original I had wont fit with the AC 'projection' on a Puma without modifying the mounting brackets...doable but necessary. So preceded with caution and if you find one offer it up to your front end and have a good look. Also if your looking at a 5>10 year old Bar there is a high chance its got internal corrosion damage. Lastly on corrosion damage...add this measure to your to-do list (day one... ) Good Luck Click image to enlarge 300tdi Bull Bar Click image to enlarge 2.4tdci Puma with AC SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Hi Skip,
Thanks for a really considered reply. We have the same issue (or at least I have that which you had) This is the kind of gridlock I might have to face weekly. So though it's been a hugely protracted effort to secure a bull bar like the one you had i'm still trying to. Yes, the airconditioning makes it harder. That idea about buying one that's not too old but meant for the TDI and then modifying it is really good thanks for the tip. And yes, Dinotrol, was the first thing on the list of things to do... but of course, shall be the last thing done. -- 'Rearranged for me by a post office van' - That's the post office for you, always thinking they know where things should go... Hi Norman,
The Arb types are undoubtedly solid however they're heavy and expensive.. They look good though, i'm sure they perform but did i mention heavy and expensive? Having said that it's all relative even the prices for the polymer nudge bars made my wallet shrink into itself a bit. http://accessories.landrover.com/gb/en/def...non-winch/ Skip - Thanks for that, I actually PM'd Pouf. and Pouf - You're a star, nice one. It just so happens.... I have a man in Moscow who might be able to help with that.. |
