My swivels are a semi shinny silver, but the grease seems hard and there is a bit stuck around the hubs, should I top up?

Mine looked like this when brand new:
Click image to enlarge I always thought that they should be clean and dry (within reason), as the final part of the swivel seal is a scraper seal. Any oil or grease on the visible part of the swivel will attract dirt/contaminants which if pushed across the seal when turning will damage it. The lines of dirt shown on mine are at the extremes of travel and I think should be cleaned off carefully (to avoid scratching) at regular intervals.
