3D Mapping
Hello all,

A friend of mine has just developed an outstanding new app for 3D mapping.

http://www.fatmap.com/

Literally launched only a week ago, it is currently aimed at skiers. However I have suggested he looks at doing an Overland version which he is seriously considering, albeit when the ski version (and then a mountain bike version) are complete.

Would this be of interest to you Defender nuts out there? The app is able to be used on Apple or Android devices and once downloaded only requires GPS for use.

Personally I think it is excellent, but it would be interesting to hear your thoughts from a 4x4 perspective.

Let me know. Thumbs Up

PS, I'm not being paid for this, just an idea for Overlanders.... Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

looks really good. i bike and we already have something called strava which is similar; its not 3d but it does record your time on different runs working out average speeds etc, also good fun to race everyone else on the route... we've got into a little bit of trouble before hunting for KOM's so some trails get removed.

Hello Grenadier

Yes looks good and a roaming 'overland version' would be interesting.

On your Phone, Sat Nav, Tablet (or all together) could be really
useful as a route planner, see before you commit, drivers log etc.

I too use Strava when on a bike and really like it.

Google must be developing its GPS Tracking App in conjunction with
Google Earth along similar lines, to give 3D Topographical Mapping.

There are Apps like GooPs which are also trying to crack this

Still like my collection of 1 : 25000 OS Explorer Maps...
but times are changing fast... Exclamation SKIP
