2013 Puma 2.2 loud hissing and loss of power
2013 LHD PUMA 2.2

Whilst driving through the Chilean patagonia, I accelerated to pass another auto and then began to hear a loud hissing sound, when pressing the accelerator. The hissing stops when power is reduced. I am noticing a significant loss of power. After reading forums, it looks like it might be a hose leading to or from the turbocharger. I've included a still photo of the engine bay, and would love your help locating the possible culprit hoses. I have also included a youtube video that I hope illustrates the loud hissing sound, and when the engine is cut off, there is a high-pitched stable-note squeal that persists for another 10+ seconds. I just bought this used a week ago from another owner, and it only has 23,000km on it. Service is 800km away, so I'd like to do this myself... l've long dreamed of owning a Defender, so your help will also contribute to familiarizing me with the engine bay of this beast! Better yet, if anyone has a diagram of this engine bay, I'd be indebted...

Thanks K9F. But I was hoping for a 'how-to' since I'll likely have to do this myself... I included an image of the engine bay, if anyone can help indicate which hoses are the likely culprit... Thanks,

Yeah, but this seems simple enough for me to do it myself, with a little helpful nudge from seasoned Defender owners...

This diagram shows the air distribution within the engine bay:

Hose 6 is the one that leaked on mine. It popped off on the motorway and I managed to put it back on again and tighten up the jubilee clip. It came off another 5 times before I got to replace it.

I didn't bother with Land Rover's solutions (dealer - yes, we've fixed it - it just popped off again) or a different pipe that wears through and bought a set of silicone hoses from BAS (sponsor on here) and used a Mikalor clamp to hold it in place.

Comparison of standard hoses and BAS hoses:

View into engine bay (left hand side as you stand in front of the car facing into the engine bay) where hose 6 connects at the part that popped off, with new hose and new Mikalor clamp.

Not sure ifthese hoses are a direct replacement for MY13, but I'm sure someone on here will know.

Or try and get Land Rover to fix under warranty, there was a recall (I got my phone call about this last week - about 1 year after I fixed the problem myself).

Interesting - how do you think that got damaged?

The more common issue is as mentioned above with the longer hose fouling on the steering column. There is an official LR recall to add a lower support bracket to stop the two parts touching. Might be worth you checking with your dealer.

This is a left-hand drive, but I'll continue
but I'll continue feeling under this hose, to see if there is any trauma or rubbing.

Aaargh! Another hose split.
I'll have to wait until the silicone hoses arrive from the UK.
