OK I know some forum members are gun owners (hopefully responsible ones ) but I think THIS is complete madness.
Letting a 9 year old 'loose' with an automatic weapon in my mind is complete madness. I do not know how much strength is required to control an automatic weapon but very much doubt that a 9 year old has the required physical strength. Now that little girl has to live with the fact that she has killed someone. Yes I can feel sorry for the girl, but am not sure I can excuse her parents.. 6,500 youngsters are killed in the USA every year which is a tragic loss. Must admit I am glad that the UK is predominantly a gun free society. I am not having a go at responsible gun owners/users but just think letting little children loose with firearms is not a sensible on the grounds of physical strength and mental maturity. Brendan |

The world would be a better place if the things didn't exist.

Guns are not the problem. Irresponsible people are just like bad driving, bad motorcyclists, bad bike riders etc. BM52

Cobblers .. They're just a tool like any other tool or untensil. Guns don't kill people - people kill people! Guns and Landrovers .... anything else is irrelevant. |

Usually in the USA, yanks are known for their careless attitudes full stop. (But I like them as people all the same)
Trouble is if you've been shot or something happens it's a bit late by then. |

^^^Talk about sweeping generalisation, a bit like them saying all Brits wear bowler hats and it's always foggy in London. There are good, bad, careful and reckless types in all societies Steve.

Stupid people owning/using guns kill people You would be rightly jailed for neglect in this country if you let a nine year old loose with a chainsaw let alone an automatic weapon, however closely supervised. As a responsible gun owner I cringe at the American statistics He who dies with the most toys...wins! |

I don't question that there are responsible gun owners (I think I was one in the past) but in light of recent events I do agree that removing them from the planet altogether would save a lot of lives. I know it's an unfair and simplistic solution but the freedom to own a gun (however legitimate) can never outweigh the life of a child. Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |

^^Yes very, very simplistic. Following that logic why not remove all children from the care of their parents and keep them isolated in padded cells, surely doing so will greatly lessen the likelihood of any child being killed or hurt accidentally or otherwise Steve.

True, guns dont kill people, people kill people, the logical answer then is to definitely not give guns to people .Most people aren't fit to own a dog in this country.I should add I'm not at all worried about the current gun legislation in this country as it stands,it has been proven to be very effective as mass US style gun rampage shootings are almost non existent.
