Finding where a number plate is from/ locating a car?
Has anyone got any experience or tips to finding a number plate. Im after; CA10 UTT which from trying the insurance quote way is on a bmw. However I understand the DVLA dont give out that sort of information (for obvious reasons)
Im just after an address or contact details so i can make them an offer.
Any help appreciated Smile
I know the car details aswell, but dont think thats anything to go on? Defender puma dormobile camper

DVLA apparently sell the names and addresses of registered keepers to all sorts of folk and they don't seem too fussy about who they sell data to. Check out their website - all those dodgy parking enforcement companies only exist because they buy names and addresses of registered keepers. See little safeguards that personal details aren't then passed onto criminals, perverts and terrorists?

C41CUY is available-a bit of imagination with the font or fixing screws might give you a match Whistle

When I was a student (more years ago than I care to remember) one of my contemporaries really did change his name by deed poll so that his initials matched the 1-digit-plus-3-letters registration on the car he'd just bought!

As i understand it, if a reg is a normal issued one, it can not be sold as a private until that vehicle has been disposed of.

Ones that are not issued, and kept as reserve due to their private potential, can be put onto any vehicle with the due process, but if you want their reg you can;t have it as that woudl require theur vehicle to be re-registrationed for no apparent reason.

So probs have to buy their car, write it off then apply for the reg to be re-used as a private plate.

Looked into something similar the other year and thsi was how the DVLA (DVSA now) explained it, TY&GN
10 years in a WOLF, WIMIK and Snatch and this is all I have to show!

Nearly any normal registrations can be transferred. There are a few exceptions Q plates for example and you can`t transfer a plate onto your car that makes it look newer than it actually is. Also if you transfer a plate from for example car A to car B assuming car A has its original issued number then the replacement number that DVLA issue to car A becomes non transferable. If the number on car b is ever transfered onto another vehicle then carb gets back the number it had originally which then also becomes non transferrable. DVLA always hold back hundreds of ordinary numbers every year so that they can issue an year related number to a vehicle at any time should the original number be transferred. There are a few other rules/exceptions but that covers most of it. Smile

In answer to some of the above, yes I do and they'll be my next port of call as our fire station where i work has the police in to now aswell (not that I'd do such a thing Whistle )

My understanding was as Don says the car would just be issued a new plate? I dont really want to have to buy and write off a 10 plate bmw Laughing

As a point for anyone interested Ive filled out a V888 form from the DVLA and made a payment to try to gain the contact details so we'll have to see. Defender puma dormobile camper
