Can anyone recommend nice remote empty beach or beaches in Scotland, looking to rent a cottage near a beach away from floods of holiday makers, have seen some great backdrops of folks photos, not looking to go until September / October, once the kids have returned to school. Take a tent to Calgarry bay on Mull. Or as previously suggested get up into Sunderland.

+1 for Arisaig Morar and Benderloch. We had 5 days at Benderloch a few weeks ago and can recommend a very good campsite with Loch side views.

Morroch Bay - 2 cottages on a remote beach, only accessible by 4x4, boat, or clifftop walk. I was there a couple of years ago...here's some pics from my trip:
Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Last pic shoes the track down to the beach & cottages - you really do need a decent 4x4. The clifftop walks take you to Portpatrick (lovely village with enough facilities to keep you happy), or for a larger town, Stratrear's not too far. We'll be back someday. Some lovely remote beaches further North as well (I'm a sea kayaker & Defender owner in Scotland, so I do go to these places quite a bit), like Oldshoremore, Achmelvich, As said above, the road from Fort William to Mallaig has some lovely quiet beaches (Arisaig, Morar), and further North again, Kylesku, Sandwood Bay, and Balnakeil.
