Just tried to insure my new 110 with eSure, what a carry on! They don't list a 110 CSW on their system so she asked if it is OK to put it down as a 110 TDi SE
Then I advised that it will have a winch and bumper fitted, surprise surpsise that isn't listed either. "Is it a front spoiler" the girl asks? "No it isn't it's a winch for recovering a stuck caravan from a filed" I say End of story is they won't insure me Will go back to NFU, should have suck with them. Andy |

I'm insured with NFU , which I took out 10 days ago, but my fisrt enqiury with them they said the the newest defender on there system was the TD5, which they quoted, when I told them it was a 2.4 lit, they had to go there underwriters to find out if there is such an engine, 3 Days later, they wanted another £74.00 to cover me for the 2.4 which we paid anyway as there were the cheapest, you would have thought the NFU would be up to speed with current defender models, dealing mainly with farmers and country folk. Norwich Union all the extras and 4x4 no problem On a mini fleet ins. So I presume that Norwich Union will be OK for extras and 4x4 ing on a standard single vehicle ins.

I'm with Norwich Union as I had a Skoda Octavia on an 07 plate insured with them, been with them years for my "ordinary car" and as never modified, no worries and only £235 a year fully comp with business.
My old 90 was on a classic policy with Adrian Flux so no worries there and only £190 a year. Then I got bored with the Skoda and bought a Freelander very cheap from my neighbour it was on a W plate (2000). One lady owner from new (my neighbour)! I phoned NU and as usual got through to Bangalore (no it's not a joke they really are). First off they insisted from the registration it was a 1.8i, "No it's a 1.8Xi Millennium" wouldn't have it and insisted on insuring it as the wrong model Then came the extras: body kit, privacy glass, A bar, driving lights, lamp guards, I managed to get them to accept they were not really "modifications" as that's how it came from the dealer (which was true). "Oh that will be an extra £36 as an older car represents a greater risk" Wasn't too happy with that but they wouldn't budge. Then last month I traded in both the cars for my Defender, back to Bangalore and got told: "Oh that will be an extra £120 as a newer car represents a greater risk" After I told them were talking brown smelly stuff from male bovines, they brought it down to an extra £80. As the alternative was cancelling the insurance and no doubt getting stitched up on that and having to pay a cancellation charge, I was left with little choice. I'm certainly shopping around come renewal time. MAD COW 2007 90 Hard Top - 2009 BMW F800GS - 2002 CCM 604E Dual Sport Project90 |

If there was a award for this category it would have to go to NFU. Sent an enquiry and they returned by phone a simple question, does the landrover get parked in a garage over night. I repied no on my drive they said Sorry we wouldn't be able to insure you.
Has anybody else experienced this ? Come to think of it who has a garage the size of a barn to park there landy in. |
