If they are branded with his company name he must know who makes them. Allisport are/were synonamous with quality and you invariably pay for what you get. If he claims it was Allisport who made them......check with them direct!
Chiptech Intercoolers are also very good and they do brand theirs with company logos if requested but the design and manufacturing are identical to their own branded ones. The decision is really yours but why compromise? Welds are obviously important, the forming of them, no splatter etc....as for the internals you will have no idea what you're getting. Me personally I would pay the extra and run with a well-proven make. Don't rush just because he doesn't have what you were after. Alisport for me I have never had any issues with them. You get what you pay for and Alisport are top quality, buy a brand that you know people have tried and tested.
As far as I know Alisport do not make inter-coolers for anyone else! |

ok done - imported the allisport from the UK in the end. Cost is basically the same as the Alisport would have cost from the local guy in any case.

Marius, you won't regret it, esp in our summer!
You will find yourself looking for a 7th gear. Or an 8th, if you have the BAS remap. Just a word of caution: some people will tell you this is a 2-hour DIY job. I recommend you take it to your indie and save yourself the hassle -- 2010 Defender Puma 90 + BAS remap + Alive IC + Slickshift + Ashcroft ATB rear 2015 Range Rover Sport V8 Supercharged Defender Puma Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zZ1en9 Discovery 4 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zXrtKO Range Rover/Sport L320/L322/L494 Workshop Manual: https://bit.ly/2zc58JQ |

If you do have the time, inclination and money to pay for someone else to do it Naks is correct about the two hours. I fitted my own simply because I wanted to, it was my vehicle and I would take my time and pay more attention to detail. I also had air conditioning to contend with, an awkward stud that wouldn't budge and stainless steel pipes to fit. Well worth the effort.....

Most likely that would be a serek intercooler.
I got a chiptech on mine from alive tuning, it took just over 5hrs to fit including new samcos and alit of swearing to get the bonnet to re align with the catch. I believe if i didnt have ac and a winch spots etc i could of knocked about a hour off 2004 TD5 Defender 90 xs station wagon |

Can't possibly be any worse than an allisport intercooler, was very very disappointed with the one I had: Rotted to death and only fit for scrap after 6500 miles Never again |

From an old thread. I decided personally not to go with Alisport at that time. Maybe you got one from their irksome period perhaps?

I am inclined to think that this is not (only) a case of corrosion. The fins are aluminium. They can corrode (though I´d wonder why they should do faster than anyone´s else). There is aluminium I think which is more resistant to salt than other. But still - corrosion turns aluminium to white powder. In the pics there are fins which were bent. Could it be there was sth. mechanical done to them ? Like: Click image to enlarge |

Sadly not, just bent from airflow because they are so weak from corrosion. I had an Allard intercooler on my other Td5 at the time and that is now on over 160,000 miles without any problems..........

The intercooler I bought seems to be a newly developed one.

Mine too - took less than 4 hours for me to fit and a lot of that was from dropping the bonnet and jiggering the slam panel. The trick is to use two nuts to get the studs out. Then it's easy.
I wonder if the new design slots in easier *edit* doh - BAS website says it was designed to Tell someone you love them today because life is short. But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing... |
