I like my Factory Grabbers
Very unfashionable do can be found cheap but for 95% road they are good and last forever! |

As Tiger said
Last for ages and come up for sale regularly ., ironically due to people changing to more aggressive patterns like your Cooper STT |

Original GG TR, now 5.5 years old and look like new after 67k km, no cracking or anthing else at all. Also lost only 4mm thread sofar, so they will stay on a few more summers I guess. When I eventually will replace them, probably when they will be 8 years old as by then rubber will have aged, I intend to replace by 4 new same GG TRs. Advantages: GG TR excellent on road, keep the original look (which by then will slowly become vintage ), and I only need to buy 4 new as the unused original spare GG TR will remain on.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Tyres between 8-10 years old , there is no definitive age, start to degrade due to stress ( heating up , cooling down ) and UV damage.
If kept at a steady temperature and out of the light they will last longer . |

........ and if kept at the correct pressure ........ and if they are rotated to avoid flat spots .... and if not exposed to chemicals that accelerate degradation.
Maybe safer to just change them after a number of years on the vehicle? |

Really not a fan of the general grabber. No grip in the rain they are too hard. I also felt there was a lot of sidewall movement. When I had them removed there is a very thin spot at the top of the sidewall.
For road tyres I would go Goodyear or Pirelli. I had Pirelli on my td5 some years ago and they improved the handling, stopping and they didn't hold on to stones like the grabbers do. They don't last as long because they must be softer. Still did 30k odd on them before I sold it. Tyres seem to be quite personal. |

I don't think you can go wrong the bf at, it's a very good tyre. It was fitted to late 300tdi and early td5.
I really rate them and would recommend them. It's a tyre that is good on road and enough to get you out of trouble off. I my d3 I had general grabber AT2 which I did like a lot. |

2 x Defenders both on BFG AT for general use.
When I started doing a lot of miles in the Puma I found them too harsh and not good on slippery tarmac. I changed to GG ATs, much smoother, quieter, more grip in rain on tarmac. BM52 |

I agree the general grabbers are not very good , I found them very vague in fact when I picked my defender up new I done 100yrds and turned to my dad and said these tyres are coming straight off they feel terrible changed to bfg at |
