Tyre fitters puncture traps?

As I drove home this evening, my Smart Fortwo picked up not just a nail in the rear tyre, but what can only be described as a bolt. The kind you'd get in a car. Puncture. No spare, limped home. Hazards on. Flat as a pancake.

That's the second puncture of that kind on the same route. Last time one of the 110's BFG ATs acquired a similar bolt. The route passes a local independent tyre dealer and I can't help but think the bolts are scattered in the road to invite locals to get their punctures repaired or tyres replaced there. The time it took to deflate on both occasions would make it about right.

I'm going to ask them outright!

Are the tyre dealer called Trotter Independant Tyre Services? Sounds like the spirit of enterpreneurship is not dead yet

I suppose you would hold BP to book if you ran out of diesel.

Had one in yesterday with a wiper arm through the tyre.

That's not paranoia. It may just be cynicism but I think more likely realism. Not all companies have the integrity of the companies owned by the guys who give us so much support, advice and service on here. AJS is certainly no exception.

A indy tyre company based next to the M74 north of Carlise was prosecuted for this in the early 80's. Their fitters were instructed to throw bolts out on the road north and south. I hade two truck deflations which they replaced at full RRP. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..
