So, right ball park, but slight variation....

I have a 2001 TD5 90 that I've just swapped out the indicators front and rear for LED items. Test of hazards showed the expected faster than usual flashing with the omission of that first trailer flash. Solution; fit the adjustable relay that was purchased at the same time. Then it went weird. The flashing is now so quick I can't even replicate when trying to explain over the phone. The vendor suggested checking the earth points.

All incandescent bulbs were working just fine before I got the screwdriver out, all LEDs work fine on indicate and on hazard. Now I see that the offside rear indicator is covered in mud as it appears to be unprotected, would this be a potential source of problems, or should I be looking at the earth situation? I see from the postings above that there's talk of an earth for rear lights on the transfer box, one in the RHS wheel arch and possibly one in the number plate light.

Would that cover possible indicator issues?

If you can't find it let me know and I'll dig out the picture again. Won't be till Tuesday though since I'm away from home at present.

Blackwolf, I could use the picture you mentioned to locate the earthing points on my 05 defender. I'm having troubles with my indicators (none of the 6 lights flashes, no hazard warning lights either) since I took the car up a mountain road under heavy snow fall. From what I found on the web, it looks like checking the conditions of my earth points could be a good idea. The electrical diagrams in the Haynes manual mention the existence of 7 points for the td5 but do not indicate where these are. Any clue? Thanks!

Unfortunately I cannot find the diagram I remember. The earth point for the rear lights is in the vicinity of the RH gearbox mount however.

I sounds unlikely that you problem is the simultaneous failure of multiple earth connections since if this happened other things would also have stopped working. Look to your flasher unit first, I suggest.
